Because kids and adults enjoy dressing up in costumes, and be anonymous, or at least someone /something you are not, if just for the eve. We love the candy, the traditional foods, the opportunity to scare someone, being ou at night in the dark. It is yet another party to drink booze.
The neighbor always had a good party. The kids came back from trick-or treat, she would have glazed donuts and apple cider. The adults had had their party by the time we got back, they had a light meal. She always gave the best treats on the block, back in the day when it was still safe to make home-made treats. She had popcorn balls, and gave out whole candy bars from a big bowl, and let the kid pick which kind they wanted.
One of my friends in Jr. High had a party. She had decorated the basement, had cute cupcakes, and scary food.We played Halloween games had scary music. It was so cool. We were all impressed, our parents had never gone to those lengths for a party.
So it is fun the food is great, we get to be scared, and dress up.It's my second favorite holiday, after Christmas.

It surrounds All Saints and All Souls days in the Catholic calender. Its a myth that this is the night that the freaks come out!! muhahahahahaha!

Because it is the best holiday of all time. you get to be what ever you want and scare the hell out of people, get free candy, and tear stuff up under the cover of darkness.

Even in religions it could mean something like paganism and Wicca it is only a 'mythical' day.
