Just briefly looking over the Yahoo News, i came upon this quote:

''Justice Minister Hamon Ramon told army radio Israel would fight Hezbollah with the "same means used by the Americans against Osama bin Laden," the leader of Al-Qaeda, or employed by the Russians against "Chechen terrorists''

Excuse me if im wrong, but isn't the Russian conflict with the Chechens one of the worst cases of human rights abuses in the modern world? Is Israel admiting it will consider ethnic cleansing and indiscriminate killing of civilians, or was it simply a terrible choice of words?

absolutely

what the Russians did in Chechnya, no matter how right they where to invade, was atrocious. no1 other then Israel knows to the full extent of this truth, as Israel uses this intel as diplomatic blackmail against Russia on foreign policy.

Israeli foreign ministers are known to hold there meetings well prepared beforehand with all kinds of information to dictate the outcome and Israel has been following Chechnya very closely in interest of having Russia chose its words to Israel carefully. Russians don't suffer bureaucracy the same way as we do in the west, no minister blaims another no matter how diverse the faction...

In choosing those words, the statement merely spewed the primitive words we in the west drink so thirstily. That is because America chooses to overlook Russia's story in that part of the world, and as far as whoever worded that statement is concerned, it not a worry that too many people like you will ask after this point.

just for those who have no clue of what the russians where up to in Chechenya, refer to the newsweek article of the Russian soldiers who said they wouldnt rape dead chechenyan females if they where dead for long unless they where still 'warm'.

It sounds to me that Israel's justice minister has learned from the Russians the art of talking big. But I'm not sure he wants to model his efforts after America's search for bin Laden or Russia's attempts to exterminate the Chechen resistance. Neither has been particularly effective, and some would say they've both been misguided and incompetent. The Israelis probably mean to be brutal and ruthless, but it's still a bad choice of words. Ethnic cleansing isn't even an option because, as Israel found out with the Palestinians, when you displace a people they have to go somewhere, and there's just not that much room in the middle east. Israel probably just wants the Lebanese army to take over from Hezbollah and maintain order all the way to the border, it does not want to force the local population out.

There's no difference between Hezbollah chief and bin Laden. The remark simply means that the political leadership of the terrorist organisation will be legitimate targets for the IDF and must be removed like what the US did in removing Afghan talebans, Saddam; and what Russian achieved with the killing of the Chechen chief. Israel is no Serbia, is not Russia. Infact they do issue advance warning to residents to stay clear of the area intended for strike so that civilians casualties can be avoided - which army in the world does this?

First off Haim Ramon who you quoted is a nothing in Israel . second off for the past 30 years Israel had the capability to wipe the Arabs off the face of the earth and it just shells empty buildings .

Ramon was trying to make a comparison that when the Americans or Russians were attacked they had the right to protect their interests - he was not saying they would use the same methods ---- what a pity though don't you think - then at least Israel would have real peace

I think they are referring to that fact that they will take out the leaders of Hezbollah in the same way the Russians and Americans are doing.

No war is justifiable. Killing is murder no matter what you kill for. Killing for you country, is the same as the murderer lying in jail right now or in death row.

It infuriate me when people say war is justifiable if it to protect themselves. Aren’t the people we kill still human? Won't they bleed and die just like you and me? What about their children who they left behind, it just create a chain of hatred that will never end.

Shelling empty building. either you are blind or just caved in your own world? Don't you see children fleshes get burn after those shelling?

Where is our humanity? War creates destruction and hatred. Hatred creates the terrorist, and than people started blaming the terrorist when they strike but don't blame their government who go on killing in the name of the country.

Fine you are excused.

Do some research on issue, you will see that it was exactly the right choice of words.
