Ironically the same thing just happened to me, and I am 28. It happened right after I quit my job to go back to school, one single stark white hair in the middle of the top of my black head of hair. I presume it's stress because there wasn't a serious change of diet or anything else, and I had just quit a stressful job and started stressing about the rest of my life.
Typically gray hair is caused by a deficiency in vitamin B, but when it is an instantaneous change like it was for me to a single stark white hair, I prefer to believe it was either being stressed or leaving a very stressful situation.
If you don't want it to spread try taking vitamin b supplements and massaging your scalp.

Are you asking why your hair is very dark, or why you've got a grey hair?
Different people get grey hair at different ages, different times and at different rates. It could be it's genetic (some people just grey prematurely - I knew someone at school who had salt-and-pepper hair at 17), it could be stress. Ask your dad when he got his first grey.
It doesn't mean that you'll be turning grey all of a sudden. You might not get another grey hair for months, or you could find a couple more this week. It's no reason to worry.
Have it plucked if it bothers you.

Was it white or was it grey? White - you are turning into a skunk, grey - old man already. Either way - happy days.

When I was eleven I got that too. When you got one strand of white hair it means that you're not gonna be old like grannies. Or grandpas. Well, its just "LOST".
