It depends on what school or training you go through... 4 year college or university, 2 year associates degree, 6 months+ or self paced certificate course. Also, there are different paths and aspects to focus on. Will it be focused on science, art or business... or more than one? Will you be required to do an internship? How will you go about getting experience in the industry? What KIND of fashion designer do you want to be? Couture, boutique, industrial, leisure, and/ or design for or under someone else? Another thing to consider is your vision or style and if it's marketable. How good are you? How confident are you with your designs and the fact that this is a very brutal industry when it comes to trends and design? Some people devote years, even a lifetime to become a designer... while others get so lucky that they become famous and rich without much effort. Did you know that Juicy Couture was started with only $200 and some sketches for a few simple track suits? I wanted to be fashion designer so bad... but am also torn with my interest in criminal justice... that's gonna set be back a while... but I am always keeping busy by doing research on the net and at libraries so when the time comes (I hope) I am ahead of the curve and maybe just decide to duke it out on my own!!! Good luck!!!
