A new company took over and kept the old workers. When the new company took over they made me a supervisor instead of a person that worked there years before I did. The reason for this is that when the new company did an inspection they found that this person was half doing their job. Before the new company took over, the old supervisor was letting this person and others get away with half doing their job because they did not want anyone angry with them. This person expects me to let them get away with half doing their job because they and others have gotten away with it litterally for years (which is why the old company was gotten rid of and a contract was given to a new company). My employer gave me the choice to have this person fired but I said no and asked the employer to have a word with this person. They did but it still has not changed the persons lack of doing their work. I really don't want to give the word to fire someone: so what would you do if you were in this position?

I agree with SLICK and Redneck. You were hired to be the supervisor and you have to do the job you were hired to do--that is what the company is paying you to do. You must step up and be the supervisor. It is not fair to other employees or to your company if you let this person's poor performance continue. And believe me, it will not get easier for you to supervise others and to get the work done if this individual stays on with bad performance.. Document, document, document -- and then do what you must do. Congratulations and good luck!

this is a simple question and im sure u know what to do. ur probably a real nice person and dont want to do anything so harsh but u need to realize ur a supervisor and u have a job to do. this person was warned and they still wont listen and u know why. they are butt hurt u got the job and not them and the right person go the job kool. so u could have fired them but u didnt ok another chance kool. ok now what do u do. there still not doing there job to the full so its time to fire them. there is someone out there who will dedicate themselves to the job. so why let l lazy person who wont listen to supervisors stay. do it get rid of them and get the interviews going and pick a team player. u know u have to do this u just wanted to hear it. well hear it is and u r not a bad person if u do that. this is ur job and getting rid of bad apples is something u must do. so just do it ok. good luck and congrats

Truthfully... If I was there... I would fire them... But that is with some reluctance... Just because of the fact of you are basically choosing whether or not this person could have enough food for him/her... or that they could keep their home... But you could even give them one more chance to try... Give them like a week to start getting their job done right... but then if they don't... I'd say that they are fired...

Document all counseling, verbal warnings and write ups. Keep track of all the time and Things that you ask to be done. Keep a good paper trail and then let them go poor job performance. That is the only thing you can do.
