They did try it, but because it was light absolutely everywhere they were spinning in circles... so they gave up and wait for the time when there are fewer sources of light...
or perhaps they are nocturnal and they use the moon for navigation ?

Hmmmmmm, yo trivia, you dont come out in the night, would you, cos otherwise, moths would be attracted to you; on second thoughts, i really really think it's because moths, during the day, are having sex, or whatever, but they love to come out in the day, tis just they don't feel like it.

Because they are nocturnal.
They aren't attracted by lights, its that they navigate using the Moon as a reference. So lights confuse them.

Because they are nocturnal, mainly to avoid predators.
