Females are born with all the eggs they will need in their life. They are in their ovaries. What happens is, as the girl gets older the eggs begin to go through a maturing process and when an egg is mature, she will ovulate. A female is born with over a million eggs and by the time she hits puberty she will have less than a million but still enough for her lifetime. Eggs stay in the ovaries for an entire lifetime. When a woman ovulates, the egg is released from the ovary and stays in her fallopian tube for about 24 hours once a month. If the egg is not fertilized in 24 hours it degrades and is released by the body with her period.

When a woman is born she is born with the amount of eggs that she will release during her fertile years. Your eggs do not get fertilized in your ovaries, your ovaries release an egg every month, once the egg is outside the ovary it can get fertilized by a sperm, once the egg has been released it will live from 12 to 24 hrs.
