My daughter took her first steps at 17 1/2 months. She did most other gross motor skills early, but once she could crawl anywhere she wanted to go and stand up once she got there, she was more interested in talking than walking. :-)

All of my children started walking unaided in their 10 month, my Mum says that I was walking at 7 months but I think she means walking around and holding onto furniture, not unaided.
But each child is different and develops when their ready, so don't worry if your child is not walking yet.
For example my daughter was talking at 18 months my eldest son didn't talk until after his 2nd birthday and my 17 month old is currently babbling away with a few understandable words.

Hey! You have a really similar username to me!! LOL
My little boy started walking a 13 months, and could walk well by 14 months. He started talking earlier.
Children develop very differently, my little sister started walking at 7 months!!! She was a very late talker though.
The way a child develops at this age often shows what they will excell in when they are older. My sister is now very good at sport, but not an intellectual as such, and my little boy is incredibly intelligent, but not much of a sportsman!

Just an FYI on the below answer....babies cannot become bow-legged because you let them stand. It's a myth and it's definitely not true.
I walked one week after I turned 1. My twins are 7 months old and I'm guessing that my daughter will walk in the next 3-4 months as she is already pretty aggressive about pulling herself up and crawling. My son will walk when he's good and ready!
Best of luck....and remember, we want them to walk and then we have to chase them afterwards and wish they would just sit down!! 8^)

I don't have child yet.
Most children should be able to walk between 9-12 months.
Dont force them to walk too early by holding their hands up as their bones might be too weak. It will make them bow-legged.

My early walker started a week after her 1st birthday. My late walker was 15 months old. Depends on what other strides they are making in developement at the time. Children tend to "grow" their minds or their bodies... not both at the same time. SO if you are looking at physical development that seems late.. take a closer look at what the child is doing mentally. Maybe they have picked up on a lot of new words.... or have gotten better with fine motor skills (picking up cherrios with thumb and finger). Don't expect a baby to do everything at once....!!

My daughter took her first steps at fifteen months. All children are different, so please don't worry if your child is a little late on taking their first steps. If you are at all concerned, why don't you have a chat to your health visitor, who'll only be too glad to put your mind at ease or give advice if needed. I got totally annoyed every time someone asked if my child was walking yet. My mother was right once you say yes, that your child has started to walk, they start asking if they are potty trained. Our children are only tiny for such a short while, so why do people make you think that maybe your child is slower than theirs. Enjoy you little one, and treasure every precious moment.

my little boy was 15 months when he started walking. too be honest i think there is too much pressure on mums these days on what age children should be walking, be out of nappies etc etc. they will do it when they are ready, as long as they come from a loving family does it really matter, every child is different.
