Yes, just why is American football called football when it involves mostly the use of HANDS to pass the ball around except when scoring a goal with a final kick.
I think the American football should be called Macho-man ball as what the Americans like to think of it as in contrast to our beautiful game of skill and real class.

when it first came to America it was called Association Football, then only Association, and then it was corrupted into soccer. it was Charles Wreford Brown, a player for England's Old Carthusians and Corinthians, who coined the word soccer. Football (soccer) came from Europe and in the early days 1870's thrue the 1880's it was played a schools like Havard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia but it was also a mix of both Rugby and Football (soccer) then some rules changed the game then came American Football.. same as Baseball earlier years was actually played in Canada and same with Basketball came from a Canadian that introduced the game at McGill University in Canada then moved to the USA and practise the game. And the great game of Hockey is Canadian to..((( and back in the earlier days before it was called mob football. american football shoulf be called american handball cause it uses its hand 98% of the time, thats what i think.)))

Football comes from Old English-"Foot the Ball" a game going back centuries.
The Americans have taken our Rugby, (first played in England) added some padding, some different rules and called it American Football-technically it is not "football" as you can use your hands.
I think that you are correct and American football should be called "Rugby for wusses",
In much same way Baseball ,is called "rounders" in England and is played by schoolgirls.

Needs to say in Italy football is called 'calcio' = 'kick'.
About American football, here's some suggestions:
launchball
clashball
run'n'hit or kick'n'run
helmeted rugby (my fav)
oddball (non-spherical;-))
superbowlball (superball or bowlball - sounds nicely as 'bubble')
hardball (doesn't sound well)
armor rugby or armorball
American rugby

According to me, football is played with feet and we played with a ball. Maybe that's why it's called football. I'm not sure

i honestly don't know why Americans call their football football and real football soccer - what does soccer mean anyway? and besides in American football they throw the ball with hands and actually pass it around with hands so it's not real FOOTball - it should be called passball or something...

crapball or sissyball? I don't see American football players diving like a bunch of pansies.
And I've always believed all soccer players to be gay, as they love the trainers to rub their legs/thighs real hard.
Sorry, but soccer should be called sissyball.

american footballers think they are so hard, but even full contact sports like boxing doesnt have all the girly armour.
it is the most boring sport in the world, it stops for longer than it plays, hence my name for it is HANGAROUNDDOINGFUCKALL BALL.
