I Started to install XP on my HD last night that i have been using as a slave drive, but it started to format the HD, it got to 1% and i pulled the power lead out.
When i put the HD back in the computer it says its now unformatted.
I've been using it as a storage drive and decided to use it as the main drive with an OS on.
I've scanned it with some demo recovery software and it shows all the files (300G of them) on there still.
What do i need to do to get this drive to a working state again without losing the files ?

GetDataBack http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm

Edit: No don't try and install XP dont do anything that will overwrite the formatted or formerly formatted HD. You wil have lost them forever. Just go to to the website I gave you. You can read the tutorials without buying anything. On another note recovering files can take all day if you got alot of files on there. The program may even appear to freeze up. Just let it go. ;)

Good luck.

You need file recovery software on an existing computer with an existing Operating System. You can get a second hard drive for your computer and install the OS and Data Recovery software on that drive and then connect the damaged drive to that computer and recover the data or you can bring (or send) the damaged drive to a Data Recovery Company that has this software and knowledge.

If the files are really all intact, you can try using the XP installation cd to recover the boot.mgr by using its FIXBOOT cmd.
If you cant get the OS to boot still, partition the HDD using third-party software by resizing the C:\ & create another partition & don't forget to set the new partition as Primary partition. Use the new partition to install fresh OS & copy over the data. After that, delete the old partition & resize the partition you just created to your desired size. Boot into windows & run command prompt, type boot.ini and delete the unused partition. Recommended software will be Acronis Partition Expert.
Good luck

you could get better deleted or formatted images from memory card with a image restore device. you spot, once you delete images video archives on a memory card, the record does not genuinely get erased, rather it really is hidden from view and could be written over even as new records arrives. So, the first element to do is to stop making use of the cardboard immediately away. After that, i recommend making use of 001 image restore.

Look up a prodgam called Undelete...

It will restore the files for you BUT you'll have to put them on another HD first... I.e. restore them to a new HD...
