Simple, initiated means started or begun.

If we initate coverage of XYZ Company, it means that we're beginning to officially monitor and track it's performance.

With all the companies out there, nobody can watch them all, so each investment firm decides which ones they'll actively track and which ones they won't. And because things change, they begin and end coverage of various stocks whenever needed.

It simply means that they have started watching that stock more closely and performing analysis on the company and its stock performance, with an eventual desire to make some secondary level (i.e. buying their stocks) investment in that company. This typically happens when the company's revenues or earnings are rising, has good prospects down the road, but its market valuation is low. It suffices to say that when they start doing "coverage", the analyst's firm covering the stock is seeing great upside on the stock.

As in "initiated" coverage? Means that the analysts are starting to follow what the company is doing.

Initiated, just means that it started and is official.
