Chinese culture and history is definitely longer and more interesting than Japan's. I just wish people would realise this. There is much pride in being Chinese such as being the creators of many things we use for granted today e.g umbrellas, fireworks, paper, the wheelbarrow. Culturally, Chinese culture has existed for thousands of years before Japanese culture began - and when it did begin, much of it was strongly influenced by China in the Tang dynasty, including clothes (the kimono), language (the Japanese did not have a written language until they copied the Chinese).
As for today, China is no doubt becoming more strong - and very quickly as well. And I'd just like to stress that not all Chinese people are Communists or even support it! The Chinese have an extremely rich history, very deep philosophies and beautiful art.

Well, I am what I am and I accept what I am so if I was Japanese I'd rather be Japanese and if I was Chinese I'd rather be Chinese. The main difference would be my cultural background, but I think I would take pride in whatever culture I was born into and then make my own rules and be who I want to be rather than what the stereotype says I'm supposed to be. So if I were Japanese, then I can just as easily eat dim sum as a Chinese can eat sushi or vice versa. ;)

I don't mean to offend, but i'd prefer to be Japanese. Simply because Japanese women are much prettier. . . I used to work in Hollywood, California a few years ago (which is a tourist attraction) and I met people from many different places.
To be honest, 99.6% of the chinese women i met were very unattractive. I'm sorry, that's just my opinion. Chinese people gave me the imprssion that they were all very oppressed. Their culture is extremely uniform, and I say this because all the men dress exaclty the same!!! They have no diversity, and it seems like they always worry about "what other people are buying" or "what's most popular". I worked retail, and it got on my nerves when they always asked for a discount on EVERYTHING. I understand its a cultural thing, but I'm just not too keen to it.

Depends on where I am living.
If I live in China, I would rather be Chinese because there is a lot of hatred towards the Japanese for the war crimes during WW2.
If I were living in Japan, I would rather be Japanese. I guess I just am tired of being a foreigner.
If I were in the US, I might not really have a preference.

Hmm. The Japanese are ever so cool. I even used to believe I was one (hah!). But so are the Chinese. They could be the next super superpower that everyone will worship. People are starting to learn Mandarin/Cantonese now. And of course, that stereotype (ugh) of them being brilliant in math - that's something I envy.
So I guess I'd rather be Chinese? Just leave out the communism.

But, yea japanese have more sense of style and art. Chinese are just a bunch of traditional, sino-centric people.
