would that also include women? Young women how would you respond to being drafted? Or do you think that the United States would never support a policy that would draft women into military service?

Women will not be drafted but are free to volunteer.

The latest House bill being debated to re-instate the draft most definitely includes women. In fact, it includes everyone at all ages 18-39. Technically, it wouldn't be a draft, it would be a mandatory "period of national service" lasting 2 years which may or may not be military service specifically. This is known as "conscription" and not technically a "draft". With a draft, people are brought into military service in times of need on an "as-needed" basis. With this new system, everyone automatically does their 2 years minimum time whether needed or not.

Just Will, you're a liar and a liberal troll. Why haven't you posted the link to your bogus House Bill? You've quoted this propaganda before and it was debunked by a simple search of the House website...

Twinkle, I'm retired Army. A draft is the last thing the military wants or needs. The Army has had no problems meeting recruiting or reenlisting goals. Just like during the 2004 election, the draft is a scare tactic used by the left...

Since the early 80s they brought back the draft registration, in other words males would have to register for the draft by their 18th birthday. this has never been the case with women, So I can only guess the answer is No only men would be drafted.

But I dont see that happening anytime soon. the Stuff would really have to hit the fan Before the draft would come back.

I answer as a retired USAF officer who served in the Public Affairs area--which required us to be fully briefed on all publicly releasable information. While I am retired and beyond recall age, I keep abreast of military affairs.

The answer to your question is "yes"--females would be drafted. How they might serve, however, remains debatable. It appears that some studies suggest that active combat (ground, especialy) might not be a 100-percent possibility. There, most likely, will be qualifications and certain "set-asides" for stronger and larger males exclusively.

I think you can see the difficulties in non-discrimination here in regards to the chances for combat pay, awards and decorations and "resume-enhancement" leading to fast-tracks for promotions and dream assignments in a post-war period.

I could support that only if done in conjunction with ratifying the ERA, Equal Rights = Equal Responsibilities.

who can tell? Women are drafted in Israel for non-combative jobs. We have women (volunteers) who are in combat.

I think they should only serve in supporting roles, and they could even serve their duty in the post office, hospitals, schools, etc. Who knows, they might get training and learn to like whatever they get into.
