The hands point at 10 and 2 so that they can "frame" the company logo. Some nicer/higher priced watches often have a diamond or other gem at 12, and having the hands in this position draws the eye to the gem.

The answer is probably quite simply that it looks better,
aesthetically and practically, as the clock has a 'smile' on its face
(not just a marketing gimmick, it really does look better than a 'down
turned mouth' at 8.20) and, so that the company's logo
will be well-displayed.
