Source CNN: Zarqawi (who had ties with Al-Quaida)recieved medical treatment in a Baghdad hospital after being wounded while fighting American forces in Afghanistan.(this occured before the coalitions invasion of Iraq in 2003)
Source:Hannity and Colmes:THE FORMER IRAQI REGIME OF Saddam Hussein trained thousands of radical Islamic terrorists from the region at camps in Iraq over the four years immediately preceding the U.S. invasion The existence and character of these documents has been confirmed to THE WEEKLY STANDARD by eleven U.S. government officials.

The secret training took place primarily at three camps--in Samarra, Ramadi, and Salman Pak--and was directed by elite Iraqi military units. Interviews by U.S. government interrogators with Iraqi regime officials and military leaders corroborate the documentary evidence. Many of the fighters were drawn from terrorist groups in northern Africa with close ties to al Qaeda.

The truth comes out in the wash.

Propaganda/Media.I get my information from national news sources just like you.I guess in the end it comes down to a gut feeling of whats true and what isnt.I believe that after gulf war one Sadaam and Alquaeda did establish ties with each other in opposition to the United States.Number two the point is not needed to justify our invasion of Iraq anyways. When Sadaam refused to let U.N. inspectors search he was automatically i9n violation of the cease fire agreement of 1991.Point blank in a nutshell.I think that after 9/11 Bush decided not to put up with any more games from Sadaam while simultaneously waging war with the Taliban in Afghanistan.I think he made the decision to kill two birds with one stone.Good for him.And thank you to the soldiers who risk theyre lives everyday to provide the right for liberals to come in here and spew there garbage about the war.Its not a soldiers fault that some americans dont have the intestinal fortitude to stand firm when the going gets rough.

Posts like this have popped up on Internet message boards for around four years now since the reporting of that ficticious meeting between an Al Qaeda member and emissary of the Hussein regime in Prague. The assertion always turns out to be less that truthful, but another will pop up in its place.

I'm not going to spend an evening posting links to refute this assertion that doesn't make much difference anymore anyway. But just chew on this: Why have we heard bupkus from the White House about this? Bush gave a speech defending the Iraq War on the 4th of July and never mentioned this Zarqawi-Hussein link at all. As a matter of fact he hasn't mentioned OBL's name in years and disbanded the FBI team hunting him a year ago awfully quietly.

The Middle East is in flames as I type this. The Invasion of Iraq didn't bring peace to the Middle East at all.

Zarqawi did not join Al Quaeda until later. It is rumored that Osama hated him for a long time, until he started pulling his stunts after the US invasion. Prior to that he was thought of as nothing but a poor Jordanian street thug and an annoyance.

If someone other than Shawn Hannity and the Weekly Standard will confirm this evidence, we can have a discussion. Otherwise I need an unbiased source since 90% of what they say is opinion and not fact.

Hannity is still trying to say the Santorum report on WMDs is proof they were there when even the DOD and the White House are saying that report is not the WMDs they were looking for.

There were training camps in Iraq, that I won't deny. But the only one the CIA had documentation of was the Kurdish-controlled north - not in Saddam's zone.
_____________

Why is it we're supposed to believe the administration unless they disagree with Fox News? Make up your minds.
_____________

Oh, and me? 98th percentile, so don't make assumptions and don't trust everything you read unless you can confirm it in multiple sources (someone in the 96th percentile should know that).
______________

It's not a soldier's fault at all, and in case you want to know I fully supported the war in Afghanistan and I was calling for invasion prior to 9/11. I suppose if someone had listened to me, maybe it wouldn't have happened? If we'd kept our attention on Afghanistan, maybe we'd have bin Laden and we could have helped to broker at least something resembling peace in Israel. The Middle East is in horrible shape now, and I feel it has to do with Bush's foreign policy.

Brian,
You are assuming more than you realize. Zarqawi was associated with Al Qaeda long before the 2003 invasion. He was operating a terrorist camp in Herat, Afghanistan in late 1999 under funding from Al Qaeda. In 2002, he ended up in Iraq and assumed a high-ranking position in the Ansar al-Islam resistance movement (which fought Kurdish-nationalist forces). Ansar al-Islam was a group that had facilities established for making poisons like ricin. Although they publicly denounced affiliation with Saddam, they also denied having Al Qaeda ties which has been refuted by many. Local Kurds have also established many ties between members of that terrorist network and Saddam.

Now, you can look at all the documentation you want and make any kind of guess regarding his affiliation to Saddam directly. But the fact of the matter is, Zarqawi had strong ties to Al Qaeda prior to the U.S. invasion, based on his presence in Afghanistan and the group he formed there (Jund al-Sham). The group he joined in Iraq was arguably fighting for many of the same reasons, since Ansar al-Islam was present in Afghanistan with strong ties to the Taliban.

You have to ask yourself, 'What was he doing in Iraq to begin with?' and 'Why pick a group like Ansar al-Islam?'. My gut tells me something else was brewing, with or without the direct help of Saddam. This new finding, if proven true, better shows the likelihood that there were indeed direct ties.

smokingun,
In a historical perspective, you are right. The foundation of Al Qaeda's doctrine would have been at odds with the Baath party in many ways.

However, you are naive to assume that differing ideologies won't align together to fight a common enemy. They would have clearly seen each other as the lesser of two evils. In addition, there was ample opportunity to eventually win over Saddam's support. After all, Al Qaeda was able to penetrate and attack the U.S, and there were "sleeper" cells they could have used convincingly in a plea for alliance.

Many nations throughout the history of the world ignore conflicting ideologies in order to secure alliance with other countries. The reason is that they often see this as another form of protection, and a way to strengthen their ability to attack their enemy. They can worry about the differences later once they feel they're in control.

Isaac, do I sense a bit of frustration in your additional information? Both CNN and Fox News are widely known as arms of the Bush Administration and GOP propaganda machine. They are NOT a reliable news source. I.Q. is a sign of giftedness and high intelligence but it does not exempt you from a lack of common sense. The wing nuts can use this supposed link to justify their position, "See! See! We told you!!!" But we know it is just another play in the game of mind control...

Umm... you clearly know nothing about the middle east. Pick up a book on politics and international government, then pick up a book of mesopotamic history, then a book on arab culture.

After all that, you'll see why al qaida wanted to have nothing to do with Hussein's secular government.

... George Bush has gone on the record stating that (paraphrasing): We know that Al Qeada and Saddam didn't have any links before 9/11; I think that's pretty well established.

I think most of those "link" reports were assumptions, bad journalism, and complicit propaganda.
