China vetoes resolutions related to North Korea, Russia vetoes resolutions related to Iran, the US vetoes resolutions related to Israel.

I would say that these superpowers are preventing the Security council from doing it's job. Would agree?

What would be the best solution to this problem?

i dunno!
frankly, this whole idea of an international governing body is a great GOAL but if you look back, wilson had the league of nations which was basically a baby UN and it failed miserably. so i dunno what they were thinking forming a body with the same measly amount of power as the league of nations. i think if it's going to work, it needs more power and less internal monopolization.

Despite popular opinion, the UN and the security council have one principal function.

After the horror of WWII , the world powers created an institution to prevent another world spanning conflict.

in this regard, the UN is an unqualified success. There have been wars, but nothing that comes close to a world war.

Over the past decades, a number of people organizations and nations have sought to use the UN to legitimize or mandate their own agendas.

Sometimes these have been noble or Honorable causes. More often, they have been parochial or self serving.

Such is politics.

At least there have been no world wars.

No, they are doing exactly what was intended. Unless the world can move with a nearly unanimous opinion then any rulings coming from the UN would be interpreted one group or another as partisan; thereby tainting the entire organization.

It is an organization designed for apoplexy. Aside from getting caught stealing its funding and abusing its power it will remain the impotent entity it has always been.

Best solution? Defunding might be a good start.

Unfortunately the UN itself is a joke and it isn't funny. But my question now would be "What if an Islamic country was in the security council and this country vetoed resolutions for aiding Christian countries?" Tit for tat?

Yeah, that sounds about top to a universal anti-Zionist. for sure, it truly is so inconceivable in reality that it is not even humorous. it truly is a shaggy dog tale, considering Israel can't include that many issues and nevertheless put up even a good facade. considering Israel no longer only seems astounding, yet is actual a thriving society, it does propose that the UN safe practices council does have some subject matters that pick re-comparing.

The UN while not very reputable, most likely prevents us from getting into a large scale war.

As far as the UN security counsel and the UN human rights panel,...I think they should be purged of any nation that doesn't have a reputable level (of 'human rights') domestically. We do need to continue to deal with each other, but we need to do it in a manner that is honest.

It is like the way my family works
In my house there is also a security council(Dad,Mom&Elder Brother).
My Dad is to have a veto power on all financial decisions.
My Mom is to have a veto power on all Family dispute decisions.
My elder brother is to terrorize all of us.
We younger brothers never had any powers not even right to say a single word against our security council.
I told you , world is small!! Charity begins at home!!

Yes, it's completely impotent when it comes to war-like situations.
Vetoes should be cancelled and let all the countries have a say. Also, there should be no national armies, only the UN peace keeping units.

No.
Just miscommunication and communication failures.
The missing key exposed the purpose of the five super powers on planet earth.
With self lack of knowledge living human kind at their own whims and fancy thought they have the right to nuclear power.
How wrong they can be with our creator coming after them with extra ordinary power of earth, wind, fire, water and plagues on planet earth.
Our creator left behind the landmark in Russia on planet earth.
Trace it it's out there on planet earth.

Yes, it is a joke, but it´s better than nothing at all, I guess.
At least there is a public forum.
As it is, we know where every member of the Security Council stands.

Yes it is a broken organization, but it is the only one we have so until an improved UN comes along it is the one we have to work with.
