Since long ago our bodies survived being eaten by lions and such because when we are afraid our brain stimulates the adrenal gland to push out a lot of adrenalin. Then we run or we fight. This drug we make does a lot of things. It opens the tubes to our lungs and tightens down our blood vessels. It speeds the heart much faster. Blood pressure and pulse are high. It stops digestion, so you feel like you have a rock in your stomach or you may vomit to be empty. It kicks out sugars from the liver to give energy for the running. All planned by your maker to help you run or to fight when you have fear. When you have anxiety it is like fear and all those things happen for no good reason and only cause you trouble. If you are breathing too deep and/or too fast, you will exhale too much carbon dioxide and change the acid/base balance in your blood. The nerves in your hands and feet do not work well when this happens and begin to tingle like pins are sticking them and then they go numb. You panic more and breathe even deeper because "I cannot feel my hands!" The solution to this problem is to breathe as slowly as possible into and out of the same bag so that you are breathing in the same air you pushed out and can get back from it some carbon dioxide until you feel beter. Only you, yourself, knows why you are responding with fear to some thoughts you are having. They are your thoughts. What was your life like when it first started? Try to get in touch with what you were feeling and thinking just before your first attack of anxiety. There is an illness of the adrenal gland where it has a tumor, not cancer, but this tumor will for no reason send out adrenalin. Your heart will race and you will not understand. Pheochromocytoma, I think it is called. There is a set of lab tests to see if you have this problem. It can be removed and cured., It is very rare....while lots of people have anxiety. Ask yourself what good comes into your life because of these attacks. If they give you an excuse to not do something you do not like to do anyway, then you will not be really trying to recover. Or maybe you like all those antianxiety pills? So be honest and talk to yourself or find someone to talk to that you trust. Good luck.

Yes it definitely can feel like a heart prob...it can beat really fast, pound, you can even feel like you can't breathe, and you can even think you are dying if you are having a severe anxiety attack. (But You Are Not!!) You should go to a doc if you haven't already and rule out any heart probs. There are many meds for anxiety, many non-medicinal cures, (breathing and relaxation exercises, biofeedback, therapy,...) a good book to read is Mind Over Mood. I got it from a doc.
Concentrate on making yourself relax. I started having anxiety attacks at 16 and several things have helped me. Eat healthy, exercise, relax more, and if you feel anxious and your heart starts wigging, tell yourself over and over that you are okay, you are safe, you have been thru this before and it will pass with a little time. Get checked by a doc first though okay? :)

Yes, exessive stress is when a persons hormones i.e., adrenaline, are alway too high because of a perceived threat. These hormones constantly going through the body put greater work on the heart and many other organs. Kindof like driving your car with the gas pedal floored all the time. What would happen to your engine. Learn stress reduction techniques. Get in shape your heart will deal with it better.

not at all. anxiety is just to worry about something which is of no use, things will take its own course, why worry. anxiety is a psychological problem which can be tackled very well by remaining calm in whatever state of mind you are. one should learn to be cool, that will remove even heart problem, if any.

yes it can affect you in many ways. shortness of breath, dizziness, sick feeling, chest pains and acid reflux. how old you are and also bad headaches after a long episode. sometimes it helps to take a cool shower and then a brisk walk. but it's best to be sure and if anxiety is the problem have your doctor prescribe med. lorazapam 1 or 2 mg works for me

If you mean an anxiety attack,,,yes, it feels like you're having a heart attack. Your chest squeezes and you have shortness of breath. Deep breathing can help alleviate it, though.
