A good cleaner, and the proper tools and technique.
Windex glass cleaner, is a decent one... stay away from 'multi-surface' cleaners. But Windex isnt the only one on the market, there are several others... Sparkle, for instance...even some store brands are quite good. Items containing ammonia used to be the 'suggested product' for a streak free clean.... but really, there are a lot of people who have a negative reaction to it... it's best to just leave it alone. With the right technique, and regular cleaning ... ammonia doesnt really help you clean any faster anyway
Next, what are you using to clean the window with? As an experienced window cleaner, Ive found that the best thing to use, is the brown paper towels you find in some places. Its a type of recycled paper actually. Newspaper will also work, but you need to wear gloves, or you'll end up with ink all over your hands, lol. For very large windows... a good squeegee will work... again it gets to technique.
Then, you have to have a good technique.... You want to spray the window with enough cleaner to get it all damp, but not so much that it is running off the glass faster than you can wipe it up. Also, the way you wipe the glass, with the paper towel is important.... do not go 'back and forth' with it.... that leaves dirt behind, at the end of your strokes.... instead, you want to keep your paper towel moving in one continuous direction, rolling it, so that you are always pulling the damp side up off the glass. For example, if I were wiping a window from right to left, I would rotate the wad of paper towel, so that I would be lifting my fingers off of the glass, thumb comes off first, pinky finger last (right hand). When cleaning corners... keep the paper moving, rotating it, as you go thru the corners... do not simply move sideways, stop, and then move down... that would leave dirt in the corner.
If using a squeegee, spray the whole window, and start with the squeegee at the top, and work your way across the glass, until you reach the bottom.
Finally, finish it off with a dry paper towel (still using the brown recycled type, or newspaper).
This sounds harder than it really is.... Ive washed a LOT of windows and mirrors over the years, lol You can get pretty quick at it. hehehe
When I worked as a department store maintenance man, I could completely clean a 3 stall toilet, 3 sink, 3 mirror bathroom, in 6 minutes flat... that included using cleanser on the sinks, cleaning the mirrors and faucets to a streak free shine, toilet bowl cleaner in the bowls, disinfectant on the seats, empty the trash, and mop the floor.
Lol... the real challenge was the glass entry doors.... no sooner had I gotten one clean, and someone just HAD to put their hand on the glass, leaving a print, lol.

Things You'll Need: * Newspaper * Vinegar & water window cleaner Gather the items needed and prepare your windows by raising the blinds and pulling back the drapes and curtains. You can either buy vinegar and water window cleaner or make your own. To make your own window cleaner, simply pour 1/4 cup of vinegar in a 1-quart container and fill it with water. Spray the window with the vinegar and water solution. You want to spray in a mist, not a stream. Ball up a page of the newspaper and begin wiping the window as you would with a rag or paper towel. You may have to turn the paper over if it gets too wet to dry the window on one side. Repeat step 2 for each window. When you get finished, your windows will be sparkling clear with no hazy streaks to be found.

White vinegar and newspaper or worn-out t-shirts.
Believe it or not, worn-out t-shirts make great cleaning rags!
