Common law marriage is a joke. When two ppl move in together, it should be in prepartion for traditional marriage. To find out about each other, see if it will work. I agree with what a previous answer was...men get it in the end if it doesn't work out.

Legally after seven years there is no difference when it comes to rights. However, if you love somoene enough to live with them for 7yrs, 5yrs, or even 2yrs, why not get married. You already made a committement to the relationship and that person. To me it is the most logical step. I see no reason why anyone would spend that long with someone and not get married to them. If your heart and soul are devoted to that person you should marry them and make it official and known to the world and God that you love this person unconditionally.

call it what you want - but it still expresses intent and establishes a civil bond - call it common law - call it shacking up together - call it love - but once it goes bad - the one that feels the most pain will want to make the other suffer - and that is when the lawyers come in - call it what you want - but be prepared for the fight if it ends

It's a scam that forces men into a legal commitment and then they get ***-raped in divorce court.
