Should a person occasionally costume as a character of the opposite sex for fun and comedy purposes?

Actaully this would be like a comedy character or skit to be developed for entertainment purposes, not just a straight costume function, though it would be more appropriate at costume functions and benefits.

Wow! If you are planning on going into acting, it isn't a matter of "The fun of it", it is mandatory.

If you ever take acting classes, they will have you portraying animals, ocean waves and 2 month old babies.

No stone goes unturned when it comes to covering all the bases.

In the world of film and theatre, there are no holes barred.

You must learn to mimic anything!
Sometimes it's fun, other times you just find yourself standing there, not having a clue as to how to make that turn out well. Feeling like an idiot. Your mind just goes blank. It's normal.

I have been an actress in many opera guild performances as actress and or dancer.

Sometimes you're thrown a curve ball. You have to learn how to portray ANYTHING.

For me, personally, portraying a male was the hardest. I will simply just not ever be able to do that very well.
All the casting directors know this, so I'm safe as a kitten. They would just cast someone else, that can pull that off better than I can.

We ALL can't be perfect at ALL characters. That will not hold you back.

They don't EXPECT you to be able to mimic EVERYTHING. They cast you in roles, they know are perfect for YOU.

About costume functions. I hope you were referring to acting. Otherwise, I have just made a fool out of myself for the 10th time today.

Geesh!

should a person? I wouldnt say they should, but I dont see why they shouldnt. I mean I dont suggest, nor support the suggestion that each person should occasionaly cross dress. But I dont see any reason why anyone should refrain for any reason. Clothing is too inconsequential to be made that big a deal of.

I don't see why not. If the person is comfortable with it, why doubt.
