Pretty sure you will need one. Buy one anyway, and buy a good one. There is a bigger chance for a fire at an entry level event over some of the upper classes. Not everyone puts a car together correctly. This is a place to spend as much as you can stand. A good firesuit will last a very long time. A cheap one is just that, cheap. Gloves and a head sock are also a good idea.

Here's a question that will answer your question. If in the event the car catches on fire, do you really want to deal with the consequences? Always ask the sanctioning body, but in my personal experience the more safety you practice, the less hurting you do in the event of an accident

When it comes to Safety equipment always check with sanctioning body. They will tell you requirement to run as far as safety is concerned. Personally i wear a 2 layer suit even when i go open tracking. I much prefer the added safety.

I would justify spending a reasonable ammount of money to protect myself in a racing situation. Most motorsport bodies would require you to wear a fire retardant suit.
