Now, now. Don't go male bashing. Believe it or not, we DO know the difference between real violence and the stuff in movies. Really. Males certainly are aggressive for the most part, and that has a lot to do with testosterone...which you gals have, too. The trick is to balance one's behavior and have some solid thinking behind your actions if violence looks likely in some situation. "Boys" have great trouble with this, "Men" do not.

I am a girl but I think I have an idea why on both! First I think guys watch them because our government instills in our little boys that to fight for their country makes them the ultimate man! Rather that is a good thing or not it is just the way it is! And the reason war movies are so bloody is because they tell as much of the truth as they can! I guess actually what you see in a movie is really only a small part of what soldiers see everyday while fighting to keep us free! So could you imagine the real thing? If they told the whole truth in a movie it would be to unbearable to watch!

I don't think it's a matter of war movies or any other movies, the answer is where the males position in life is. They are the protectors of the human race, while us women are the child barers. I think that is simple enough, so the guy needs stimlation on their male egos, some may like the war movies, others more into sports, some just have to play sport or a good workout at the gym. But I think it is based on their human nature to be the protector of their families.

I never liked war movies until I got older and I became facinated with world war 2. I think men like war movies more for the simplistic drama of it: Kill or be killed. I dont think the voilence is a big factor as much as the thought of fighting for your very exisitance. Also, most men admire the courage and military calculation of the Generals and such. . . .

Seriously, I think you have think too far. Not all guys like war and bloody movies. I'm a boy / young man and I do not like to watch war movies. Even if I see advertisements on war on TV for the first second, I will switch channels because I really do not like it. I don't even want to know the date and time of the show. See how much I hate war shows?

Ok, to your reply, I don't know why MOST (not ALL, please) guys like war movies. It could be that they want pride, super cool badges and they want to serve the country. Maybe it's being cool to be a soldier as well. They like pain...by the way, do they like pain? Pain is like...oooooohhh...I'm being shot, then he will think "I've done well on my part on serving and protecting the country."

In actual fact, males have the tendancy to mature slower than females. You see some males being so rowdy, punk, hardcore, action-people, and even shouting vulgarities (I'm the exception). Less females are like these. If violent males have such bad attitudes and such low esteem people, they don't even know how painful it is in war. They don't even have feelings. All they like is to act strong, powerful, fearless, and domineering.

But in real life, there's no way that males cannot like war shows. Too bad the government wants all males to be a soldier. Why only males and not females as well? In scientific fact, males tends to need more energy than females, and therefore males are more stronger and muscular than females. Males love proteins a lot, but I don't, even if I'm a male also. (Eating too much proteins is unhealthy.) And if males are more muscular and stronger, the government likes to employ males to be a soldier (and it's compulsory). And if in future all young boys will become a soldier, I think they are grown up by the influence of culture. Parents will always say "go and learn swimming", "exercise more", eat this and that while the goverment always advice all young kids to "keep healthy". TV will always display war shows not only for the purpose of displaying the history of World War 2 or D-Day or others, but also to let young boys know that they will be a soldier one day. So young boys must be prepared to die for the country. And to prevent from dying, keep yourself healthy. Be strong. This is what TV tells you, watch more war shows, learn the techniques of covering, attacking, withdrawing, dropping bombs, avoiding bullets, learn to read from radar, etc. And since boys watch too much war shows, they learnt to be brutal, violent and finally love to kill, eliminate enemies and result being "bloody".

Strangely enough, my wife is more into war stories than I. Certain stories seem to focus more on things that interest her, and others seem to focus more on things that interest me. We both enjoy the emotional picture painted of different people involved.

Mens base nature is to be brutish and--well, brutal. There is a passion for savagery within us that is only held in check by decency and society. Our only outlet is simulated violence.
