I like how everyone gave a psycho/sociological answer for this... I think it's a little more simple.
Girls generally use private stalls while guys would be standing next to each other, penises exposed. I doubt girls would be as likely to go to the restroom to "chat" about their dates if they were all sitting fully exposed next to each other.

I have never asked for company in the bathroom, and I would rather be alone in the bathroom than with a group of friends. I always thought that it was kind of weird how women and girls usually need a 'support group' to go to the bathroom.

I thought the same thing until I saw something very strange. Exactly at 11:30 a.m. all the guys in this one department (about 6 to 8 of them) stop working and head to the bathroom. Yep, quietly and sometimes chatting in a single file. Then the all file out and head off to lunch. I thought "WOW! It's not just a girl habit".

Well, since the beginning of time women have felt safer in groups more than men as they are/were the physically weaker sex. I think the bathroom thing is just a carry-over from that. I mean women do everything in groups.

girls talk about the guys and do make up together. And i dont know why but it is just the way they are. thats how they let the other girl know that they are close friends now and that they can be trusdted... by going to the bathroom in front of them.

Well most guys would thnk the guys are gay! Girls always go to the bathroom in groups cause there more comfortable and personal with eachother than guys are.

Men want to be alone to do any kind of dirt... event that kind. Girls always want to feel more girly and have someone to bounce ALL SORTS of ideas and thoughts off. Plus, a girl feels less shy walking to and fro with friends, and guys...often times have little shame in social settings, or rather they REALLY don't need as much approval as us girls. Must be nice.

Girls usually go to the restroom together so they can chat about what's going on at the table. Men know this and feel insecure about appearing as "chatty" as women.

Men are often homophobic. They are affraid of being thought of as being gay. Women have things to talk about. We do make up and want to gossup. We are not affraid of eachother. Men do not have private places in the bathroom and are affraid of looking at eachother.
