you know what.
Yes, you can, just like shoes, but if there is leather attached, rather take it to dry cleaner, it will not cost much as backpacks are not that big.
Otherwise I would put the backpack in a thin cotton bad (ever a cusion cover) as all the zips ets will not hit the steel inside the washing machine.
Choose short time and cold water, but I have yet another suggestion if the material is delicate etc.
Put water in your bath and put OMO in it. I found OMO to be the best.. it takes dirt out without rubbing it. Take a brush and concentrate on bad sponts. Then take the OMO water out, and put clean water, again clan waterm so all the soap will be out.
Then take it to the washing machine, preferable inside out, and ut it do 'spin'.. only..
You will have a bad like new.. (just make sure you will straight it out when drying)
Best of luck

Most backpacks are urethane-coated nylon so that they are water-proof. The urethane coating can delaminate if you wash it with a modern detergent. So use Ivory flakes or Dreft or some other soap rather than a detergent.
Buckle any buckles and click any fastex together so they don't bang around so much.
Tumble dry low or just line-dry outside. Nylon dries pretty quick.
If it is uncoated cotton, use Tide or whatever.
If it has small bits of leather, I've washed it as above with no problem. If much of it is leather, go to a dry cleaner.
Larger cities have cleaners that specialize in outdoor gear and sleeping bags. Call the closest REI for a good reference on one. www.rei.com sells down soaps and other ones for Goretex garments.

Yes, as long as it is a Front Loader (or if it has a removable middle thingy, you know that thingy that spins in the middle of top loaders, if it's removable then remove it and wash your Book Bag)... and as long as you use NO bleach or any detergent that has bleach in it.
OK!!!
Oh and DO not DRY it, hang Dry it OK!
;-)
Hope this helps
P.S.
Also what "Namooni"
And now a days some Washers have a Hand Wash setting (neet uh, my new one does LOL!!! I LOVE IT! Check at the local Laundry Mats I'm sure one of them have a cool Front Loader that has a hand wash cycle... if not, I've always used "Gental Cycel" on everything that said Hand Wash and ALL of it came out fine!!! This was b4 I had my own Washer of course (or had a choice on which one I wanted to use Hehe).

It depends what material it is, you may want to hand wash it or at least put it on the gentle cycle. I have washed several backpacks and purses through the washing machine.

You should be able to wash in washer or soak in bucket of water to get clean. I would be concerned about putting it in the dryer if the backpack has any plastic sections that could melt or warp. If you have to have it dry immediately I would only dry it until damp and then let it airdry overnight.

I agree 👍 with most answers though I'd like to add that - I wash my backpack with the dishwashing scourer sponge and dishwashing liquid on the clothes line and then let it dry off 📴

Put it in the top rack of the dishwasher. I wash my husband's baseball caps in it...I don't see why it wouldn't work for your backpack.
