Its acting. Its entertainment. It's mens' soap operas.
Wrestling takes strength and skill. The person getting pummeled is usually doing all the work. The fights are not real. When they attack with a sledge hammer how do they swing it? They don't. They hold it in a way that they can control how hard they hit some one.
I have had some training in wrestling. Its a clever act that is designed to fool you. Kind of like magic. when the same trick is performed people begin to see how it is executed. Wrestling is evolving to look more realistic. Do people really hit eachother. YES but it is controled.
Its a cheesy kind of theatrical drama but it can be fun if you take it for what it is.

Both! Wrestling is sports entertainment . You have very very athletic people with the power to act and make a character. I think that coming up with your own moves and your own character is a hard thing to do. First of all the fans have to accept that character. Then you have to impress them with your wrestling skills. Some of the things they do are in fact real. I know for a fact that someties they cut their heads with a razor blade in order to bleed a lot and make it look like they got busted wide open. I have heard that when they get slammed on the mat it compares to getting hit by a car at 20MPH, that's pretty hard. If you look real close when they hit each other with chairs, the other guy puts his arms up so it's not a direct hit to the head. I have been watching for almost 20 years now, and it's much different now then back in the 80's. Nobody really did high risk moves like they do now, it goes on what the world wants today. Hats off to the writers for having 3 shows a week running strong.

Of course its all acting. cant you see the way the kick the guy on the head when on the floor. They bring their foot right up to the face just as it is about to touch they slam the other foot down to make a bang noise. Of course sometime rehearsed moves can go wrong because the other guy forgot or didnt follow, but obviously they are fit guys and pumped up for the show so the hurt is minimal and next to none and just part of keep fit excercise. God knows how many steriod injection a week they get because the bigger they are the more circus tickets they sell. Children loves it but if any adult watch this as a serious fair/no cheating sport then they better switch channel.

I think its real think about it the submission holds hitting each other over the head with chairs would you class that as acting? A few years ago there was a 600 pound Japanese guy (cant remember his name) who jumped off the rope and onto the other wrestler which looked very real to me.

I do believe that the wrestling on shows like wwf are scripted. Each show has a 'story line' so they know who is going to win before hand. I think they know which moves are going to be used in the fight.

Of course its fake - just like their tans and images!!! I know some people find it entertaining - I personally find it irritating and therefore don't watch it.
I guess its supposed to be taken lightly and viewed as entertainment rather than sport, but I pity those who take it seriously and think its real! lol
Some credit must go the the guys (and gals) who do it as they are obviously very fit and must have worked hard to get that way, bt to call them wrestlers or athletes - I think not!
