Actually we've been passed by China in recent years which is why oil and steel and any other raw resource prices have gone up so much in the last five years.
We are a close second...and our economy is based on exporting and expanding our "consumer culture". We need to sell ipods to kids in Africa to keep things growing right?
Plus we haven't had good depression in almost eighty years so people under the age of 65 don't know what it is like to do without...we just buy and use cause there's always more.

I don't know where you get your statistics, but that is not true. There are less than 300,000,000 people in the U.S. That means there are 6,000,000,000+ everywhere else. China and India make up half of the worlds population, so I would guess that they would use just as much, most likely more resources than America.

yeah the glutenous pigs thing is about right. More that 50% of the country is overweight. We are also a country that has been raised to get what we want when we want it. Nobody wants to wait for anything.
