It has to do with their hair cuts, from way back.
Very little hair on top almost no hair on the sides.
When you look at the head from the backside, the ears sticking out the sides make the head kind of look like an old fashoned jar, with handles.
Jarhead was a favorite Navy name for Marines. Still is.
Causes lots of Navy-Marine fights.

Jarhead is a marine, when you are a marine you are supposed to have a clear head thats filled only with the marines (ie its a jar).
