The sky soon became a threateningly deep colour. A bitter wind sent gloomy clouds racing in front of the eerily glowing moon and large, icy raindrops began to fall. The travellers looked desperately ahead for somewhere to shelter. When they reached the narrow pathway they failed, at first, to notice how neglected it was, but blindly followed it, expecting to find a house at the end. They paused uncertainly at the foot of a flight of crumbling stone steps rising beneath a forbidding panelled door. Shivering, they tugged at the rusty bell-pull and heard its hammering tones echo around the hall inside. Almost immediately, the door swung open.

An old woman, roughly age 45, answered it.

“Come in my dears,” she cackled, cracking her knuckles. The travellers yearned to escape into the cold dark night, but there was something about this intimidating woman that they couldn’t resist. They stepped in tentatively, looking around for any traps. None was in sight.

As they walked through the house, escorted by the woman, they heard a deep booming voice echoing eerily from upstairs. They looked at each other apprehensively:

"What have they done with the car this time?

"Sorry mum," they mumbled "We ran out of gas and had to leave it on the road."

The woman rolled her eyes, "It's your father you need to speak to, dears."

They followed the old woman down a dark narrow hallway. Warm inviting light could be seen flooding through a door to the right. As the travelers entered they heard the door slam shut behind them. Suddenly something from the chandeliers........

The glow from the fireplace was almost too bright, and then suddenly, one of the wery travelers noticed something in the fire it'self. A chill, greater than the one she was already experiencing grabbed a hold of her and as she was about to scream, her friend squeezed hard on her hand. She turned giving him a questioning look and notice that her was motioning with his eyes to his inside pocket. She understood immediately that the gun she thought they had left in the car was glinting from the firelight, in his pocket.
"Can I take your coats?" the old woman asked.
"No, I think we would like to leave them on just now, as we won't be troubling you for long. Do you have a telephone that we could use?"
"Oh, heavens no young man. If I thought that I should need a telephone, why, I should have one. As it is, I have not a soul to give a call to or recieve one from. Hum, I guess it's been about fourty years since I might have a notion to give someone a ring."
So confused, was the first thing that she noticed she felt, and then it happened, taking her completely by surprise.
Bang! The gun shot was deafening and she could feel the breeze as the bullet inched past her head. Instinct told her to duck, but she wasnted to flea way too bad. She didn't know where she was going but she could tell that nobody had followed her.
The old house was unnaturally still. She was afraid that the old woman would hear her breathing so she tried to quiet herself. At that moment, someone grabbed her shoulder. As she turn in fright she caught a glimps of the old woman out of the corner of her eye. She was holding a gun and crumpled on the floor in front of her was her companion in a pool of his own blood.
"It's alright now dear. He isnt going to hurt anyone now."
"Are you crazy lady? Hurray and call the hospital. Damn, where cant I find a phone around here?"
"That won't be necessary dear. I'm certain that he was dead before he hit the floor. Oh, by the way, he was carrying this."
The old woman slid the gun from inside her friend's coat over to her. She was about to scoop it up and fire all in one fluid motion but just then she saw that the gun her friend had was not the gun from the car. This was, in fact, the gun the police described to them when they reported the disappearance of their guide.
"Who are you, and what are you going to do now?"
"Calm down dearie, nothing to fear now I assure you."
Just then she remembered the fire being so bright as they came in.
"Why are you out here all alone and with no telephone? What were you burning in the fireplace lady, something just ain't right!"
"What? Oh, by golly, I thought that he was gone before you entered. That was not a fire of any thing familiar to those here on earth, but I couldn't explain it to you, because I'm not sure how he does it myself."
"Does what, and who is "he"?"
"Felipee is all I have ever known him to call hiself, He is the gentleman that built this house."
She was going to pass out she was certain. The realization that the house was well over 200 years old and that this old lady was claiming to consort with the man that built it. This was more frightening than she had previously thought possible. She started surveying the area to see if she could make a run for it, but the old woman could tell what she was thinking and took her by the elbow firmly.

It's nicely put together but needs some editing for grammar and punctuation (plus some odd juxtapositions, i.e., that they couldn't resist an intimidating woman).

I think she feeds them a nice meal, which knocks them out, and they wake up to find they're wearing chains and handyman outfits; she then forces them to fix the stairs, replace the bell-pull and weed the path.

Mysterious techno music floats out from the walls, a disco ball falls on their heads, and the old lady breaks into song and dance, gyrating wildly in six inch gogo boots.
