when did you last update the virus scanner? if not within the last few hours prior to the error then you may have an undetected virus.
can you get the system to boot to safe mode with networking?
if you don't know how to boot to safe mode, try the folowing (you may have to do this a couple of times as if you fail to hit the F8 key at the right time it has no effect) so when you boot the system keep looking the second you see starting operating system message (bottom right of the screen) press F8 immediately, then select safe mode with networking.

now wait and see if the system boots to normal, if so when the system has finished booting try to go online and go to www.trendmicro.com and run the online virus scanner this detects most other malware also.

you can always use www.mcafee.com or ww.symantec.com to run there online scanners.
wait for the scan to complete. DELETE any and all errors found.
if no errors (malware) found.
then you may have a corrupted system following a recent hardware or software update. so attempt to use system restore if available in ME i forget now I've been using XP for t2.5 years and Vista for a month or so.
failing that back up all your personal documents (the my documents folder)
now find the original set up disks for your system and restore your system to as new state. a painstakingly slow process on some systems.

now all your programmes are restored restore the my documents folder.

now run the same malware settings.

what did you do immediately prior to the constant repeating restart?
there are numerous possibilities for the erro you describe. I've only listed the most obvious and most common. i hope this helps.

failing this try getting intouch with whoever manages gateway customers problems now.
good luck

Which start-up screen? When the computer first starts or when ME tries to start? If it's when the computer first starts, possibly a power supply, Ram or motherboard going bad. If it's when ME tries to start, most likely registry is corrupt or bad driver. Try repairing or reinstalling ME. Sometime a video card or driver problem can do this when it tries to change resolutions for Windows.

It can be a SMPS Problem and u need to check whether u can start it in safe mode. For that u need to press F8 .If it starts it means that a driver which u might have loaded recently is creating the problem.Remove that software or driver to set right the problem

My Dear

First of all u must check ur RAM.
1. Try to refix the RAM.
2. Try to change the RAM
3. try to change SMPS.
4. try to reinstall the OS.

upgrade to windows xp or build your own computer. One other thing check your processor fan and see if it is not being obstructed by something. that will cause it to restart over and over.

suggestions which have worked for me are: a million. wiped clean interior pc (collected dirt became overheating chips, causing repeated shutdowns in the time of placed up). 2. wiped clean malware (secure mode, sparkling registry). BTW: the pc with the large quantity of dirt became no longer mine...

It could also very definitely be bad RAM. You might want to try reseating it and seeing if that helps. Just make sure there's not any static electricity in your clothes, and make sure to fully reseat it so it doesn't fry.
