I moved from Ohio to Alabama, back in 1997 and left Alabama in 2001. I now live in Nashville, TN.
Well lets put it like this.
It's hot. Unbelievably hot and humid during the summer. Which down in Alabama starts in late April and ends in like mid to late October. It never gets anywhere near really cold until December.
Enjoy the snow up in Indiana while you can. It rarely happened down in central Alabama, compared to what IN and OH gets in a season. When they do get like an inch of snow down there, it's like the blizzard of the century or something. Big runs on bread, beer, and gas. Schools close all over the place. All over 1 lousy inch of snow.
Hope you have a good paying job down there. If you do, don't lose it. Wages are relatively low down there compared to other states.
Beware of the bugs down in Alabama. Big roaches, and other bugs. I saw this one bug one time, I have no idea what the heck it was, but I will swear on a bible, that it was a full 6 to 8 inches long. Thank god it was out in the yard and not in the house. Otherwise, I'd be racing for my shotgun. The heck with Raid. lol
Birmingham, AL is a nice place to live. A modern city, with nice malls, and the usual amenities.
Anniston, AL is where I lived. A nice small/medium size city. Talladega super-speedway not far away. Beautiful looking area. About an hour away is Atlanta, Georgia. A must see attraction in Atlanta is the Underground mall downtown. A very unusual site to see indeed.
I didn't mind living there much, but the bugs and the weather was a real drag. Oh, and Annistion has an Army chemical weapons depot and incinerator, which always made me a bit nervous.
I miss Ohio.
Nashville's not a bad place to live. I still miss the snow though. Nashville has more snow than Alabama, but still less snow depth wise than what we got in Toledo, Ohio.

We moved from Michigan to Alabama about 4 years ago and I love it here. The hardest thing to get used to was that you will hear a lot more racial comments here than what you do in the north. Just remember, you don't have to agree with them or buy into them.
The people are friendly, the weather is fantastic. The average temperature in the winter is 50 degrees. You get some colder days but they don't last. Winter lasts maybe 6 weeks at the most. Our boys are able to swim in the pool from mid April until the end of October. If you want to know more, feel free to email me. Let me know where in Alabama and I might be able to tell you a lot more.
