to some it means bar hopping and getting drunk and staying out reallllllllll late
(Paint the town red - go on a spree
Several attempts have been made to explain this. The most persuasive locates its origin in an actual piece of drunken vandalism by the Marquis of Waterford and a bunch of his chums who, as an aristocratic joke, actually painted parts of the local town red in the area of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, in 1837. The incident created sufficient stir to be recorded in contemporary verse and engraving.)

also:

Irony is when the outcome is unexpected, but makes sense. The story is ironic because he dies unexpectedly, but the girl reads a note that makes it seem like he expected it. Wow, irony is hard to define.

Paint the town red:
Meaning: Engage in a riotous spree.

Origin: The allusion is to the kind of unruly behaviour that results in much blood being spilt.
