Your name, fifafan, shows how little you know about football.
No one is a fan of FIFA, FIFA is the World Body for football. The trophy or competition is simply the World Cup, not FIFA cup.
You can be a fan of the World Cup not a FIFAfan. And the whole rubbish from this French lawyer is just like your post, rubbish!

I think that french lawyer is the sorest loser I have heard of in a loooong while !!! I find it incredible that somebody would even try to strike controversy on the result of the World Cup final. Suppose that the strongest argument could be made for the French Lawyer's case and Zidane should have been brought back to the game. Suppose that you could meet Mr. H.G Wells, provide this French Lawyer with a time machine and send him back with Zidane and a ton of evidence back to the moment of Zidane's expulsion. In all truth, honestly it wouldn't matter whatsoever. Going to penalty shots, whether Zidane had a shot or not, almost surely David Trezeguet WOULD have shot a penalty shot, and he would've missed it, regardless of Zidane's presence of the field, supposing that Zidane scored his own shot.
Honestly, I say, give it up. Italy won fair and square and any fan of the French team is simply doing a disservice to his team by keeping on whining about Zidane's expulsion. In my opinion, it is better to lose a world cup with dignity on the field showing that you are a class act by accepting defeat gracefully, than to win a world cup at the cost of forever looking like the whiniest, sorest losing team in the history of the world cup.

Have any of you actually read the article in question? The lawyer is contesting the fact that the referee used video footage to spot the head-butting incident, which is against FIFA rules. He's justified in doing this, whether he gets anywhere or not. Personally, I don't think a judge will rule for a rematch although I'm interested to see how it all turns out.

Sure!
There will be a re-match!
Italy will be removed from the new World Cup final!
The trophy will be brought back to Berlin.
The Final will be Germany - France.
Zidane will re-play the final.
Chirac will be even more proud of Zidane's performance.
This time, Blatter will be the one to delivery the trophy.
This time, Platini will be next to Blatter too.
Platini will be correct on saying (during the World Cup) that Italy will win the World Cup in 2048.
France will be the 2006 World Cup champion.
Then... you'll wake up, sweating and shaking, and you will realize that
ITALY has won the 2006 WORLD CUP!
And it will be like that for the next 4 years!

That's nuts. I heard this before but I didn't really believe it.
I totally agree with you that it would be a huge disaster.
Could you imagine what would happen if France won and they had to take the WC title away from Italy? There would be rioting all around the world. No good can come of this. I can't imagine this would ever happen though. Let's hope not anyhow.

I seriously doubt that there will be a rematch of the final, but get this: France and Italy are in the same group for the Qualifying Round for Eurocup 2008 (it's Group B), so they're gonna play each other again pretty soon. September 6th, to be exact. That should be fun!

Either revoke the world cup title or a rematch - if FIFA wants to revoke the Golden Ball award. Punish both if need be, not a one sided affair. Strictly speaking, both sides are wrong, and it's only this game where referee did not see with own eyes but red-cared ZZ.
Let FIFA take action ONLY after the game as it is not within the means of the referee since he did not see it!
Assuming disiplinary after the game by FIFA, both but not Zidane alone must be disipline!

i've got not at all been to France, yet I certainly have been to Italy. via fact the warmth and humidity made me torpid, i think of i might elect France over Italy. And on an identical time as the two languages are beautiful, French is prettier.

I don`t think so
if this happened I would request a re-match for the world cup final between England & Germany 1966..because England`s 3rd goal didn`t cross the line.....I would also request for a re-match between England & Argentina in the quarter finals 1990..since Maradona`s 2nd goal was by his hand
I don`t think it will happen
soccer can be sometimes unfair & it`s all part of the game we all enjoy

yes it is!!! it's not the court who decides that -> fifa does!! And for a game being replayed it must happened something very serious! For instance remember Maradonna "hand of god": he scored with his hand in the final vs England and Argentina was WC. The game wasn't repeated and i think it is more serious than what may had happened in Italia vs france game...
