I think there are likely dozens of species of fish living in the deepest parts of the ocean that we *think* have gone extinct. heck.. species that we don't know about one way or the other.

This world is mostly ocean.. and of that ocean, a great deal is simply to deep for us to explore.. the pressure destroys cameras and any vessel that ventures too far.

We simply don't have the technology needed to really map out, take inventory of, and study aquatic life in the darkest parts of the ocean yet... maybe one day we will manage it, but it hasn't happened yet.

So.. yes. Not only is it possible.. it's very likely.

that prehistoric fish was never really extinct, it was THOUGHT to be extinct.

and yes...i believe there is a LOT of fish thought to be extinct that live down on the bottom of the deep ocean floor. i know that recently a giant squid was FINALLY filmed swimming in the wild~!
we have only explored 1% of our oceans....there is SO much still to find, old species we thought long gone, and new ones we have yet to see.
