The intellect is my private asylum and my private library--its where my body and my soul are fed-- where I can argue with myself, discuss theories, explore conclusions, create or destroy at will and justify my actions to no one but myself while listening to Mozart or U2. I can immerse myself into art, philosophy, mathematics and astronomy, and at some point at the end of the day I will know when its time to put it all away and be normal. I can have the ability to be whatever I want to be and
and my life is enriched and fulfilled and I emerge from this experience with direction and purpose. Without my intellect, just being smart or intelligent is simply not enough. Without the intellect to assess and evaluate and to create possibilities, we are all reduced to being really smart bean counters who have only the ability to count correctly, but have no real understanding what we're doing with all those beans in the first place./ Just my point of view.

My personal opinion is that intellect is something that you know, like you know what your favorite color is black or that you KNOW you hate or love something.
Intelligence is a whole different thing. Intelligence is when you learn something you didn't know before. Like learning math or learning how to tie your shoe.
Intelligence and Intellect differ in many ways. Once you learn something it is no longer intelligence, it is intellect. Your brain self consciously stores that information you learn, whether in ten years you can remember or not, you know have more intellect.
Well that's my answer. Whether it helps or not, thats your problem. Anyways, have a good day too :)

to me Intelligence: Learned knowledge. Ex. The straight a kids in school thant dont remember anything useful right after they take a test. Intellectual: Insight that is gained thru a unique thought process. Ex. The kid whi fails school, but ends up being more than the straigt A kids, or a genuis.

Intelligence is inborn - you are born with certain level of intelligence and it might expand or stagnant depending on your usage of your brain. If you are thinker and problem solver, probably your intelligence might increase but not much as i said it was more inborn.
Intellect - something not inborn. Your intellectual was gained from knowledge. You get this after you are born. What the school teaches you in school, experience in life will increase your intellect.
Which is more important? both. Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous, wisdom without knowledge is wasted.

Intellect is a faculty of a mind filled by data collected externally and poorly bridged by linear logic. Intelligence is a consciousness contains all the faculties including mind at first place. Consciousness is not linear but holographic, contains all in all. That is a creator. Piece of consciousness entrapped within mind representing single human being whom identifying himself with mind, body, knowledge, emotions, feelings, images, pleasure and pain translated out of external data and offered by mind. I would suspect that mind simply reflect back to confused piece its own deliberations on many levels in amplified forms of familiar to all of us apparitions. Confusion comes from identifying with 5 separate senses directed to external world and an ability to think. That gives a mind its deceiving power. Confusion. In truth all the Earthly drama happened in a mind, nowhere else...what a Creation. Might be a fairy tale, but that scheme is a working scheme in my practice, producing non-linear paradoxes called miracles.

In this context, the words are virtually synonymous.
Go to http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/intelligence and have a look, then do the same for 'intellect'.
The differences come in when you compare different types of entities, e.g. humans versus machines, monkeys versus bacteria and so on.
So, unless you are engaged in some such facet of this issue, as humans, we don't need to be much bothered, wouldn't you say?
