Let me clarify that Zidane is one of my favourite players & i am very happy that he got the award. But frankly i think Cannavaro deserved it more
1 He played every minute of Italy's world cup win.
2 You have to accept that he was the best defender,he had to shoulder huge burden as Nesta missed out.He had to cover up for a sluggish Materazzi, when the side backs overlapped.
Zidane on the other hand played poorly against Korea, Switzerland...missed Togo match..he was god-like vs Spain, Brazil. But was kept quiet vs Portugal & Italy. If I consider the 2 goals in these games that would mean 4 good games , compared to Cannavaro's 7.
Even for the sake of fair play i think Cannavaro should win.Even if Zidane was provoked in the final, still he has 3 yellow & 1 red. Cannavaro has not seen a card !!! Beleive me he hasnt,he is the cleanest player of WC, 690 mins played & no card...for a defender!!The only Italian defender not seeing a card
Do you think he was snubbed as hes a defender ???

I think it is perfectly outrageous to call Zidane overrated. He can score on his own see the game vs Spain.

xoxo - Totally uncalled for. You need to grow up.
Anyway, I agree with you. I love Zidane and I was happy to see him get the award but there was a small part of me that thought Cannavaro truly deserved it. Cannavaro is the best defender there is and I believe it was his amazing defending that kept his team in the WC. I think it was a nice farewell gift for Zidane and I'm not going to complain about it though cause I think if you look at the career he's had, he's totally earned it.

I agree with you. Zidane got the Golden Ball not only because his leader-position in France, but also his brilliant past(historical elements). He is old, this is his last World Cup, all the journalists made the score before the final. Thay all wanted to give him a happy ending. But this was quite unfair for Cannavaro. He's 33 and the final was his 100 caps for the natinal team. He's no far younger than Zizou. As you say, he played seven wonderful games. He was the captain and the leader of the defence of Italy. He had to make it safe even if Nesta was missing and Materazzi was just like a bomb. At last, Italy became the last champion. He deserved to get the Golden Ball, but not Zidane. Blatter said that FIFA may call off Zidane's Golden Ball because of his red cards.

Zidane is the most overrated player during the world cup, he has 5 goals, in world cup history, 2 were great against brazil 8 years ago and of his 3 in this cup 2 were penalties or maybe all three not sure. He can't create on his own. and was an italian snubbed yea but it wasn't a defender it was buffon, he allowed two goals all tournament, an own goal and a pk thats like baseball and giving up 2 runs 0 earned.

Look i am a totally fanatic of Fabio Cannavaro and i think FIFA has made the worst choice. For FIFA the defenders are NEVER good players. And i tell you something: italy win not because of its great scoremen but it amazing defence, and Cannavaro was the master of that italian defence orchestra :D
Now Cannavaro will sign for Real Madrid: and he wasn´t the best player of the World cup, LOL. I just recently find out that Ferguson of Manchester United was also interested, will see.

Zidane may have been given the golden ball as a farewell gift but what better gift for Cannavaro than to captain his team to a world cup win?

This trophy is about the participant. It has no longer something to do with Juve fixing matches. Italy's protection is the superb in the international because of him, and he's a exceptional team chief. He not in any respect head butted anybody (even as Zizou did it two times in his occupation and were given a large number of red playing cards without even being a defender) and he did not attempt to damage Zizou or Henry (sorry, notwithstanding this is such bull). he's a defender and tackling is his job. Zizou the superb participant in the WC? Please, he did not even awaken until eventually the 2d section. Canna became the superb participant from recreation one. There in simple terms is little question and the trophy is nicely deserved.

I agreee with you that Cannavaro deserved the Golden Ball, but in the past it has been rarely offered to a deffender usually the Golden Ball is awared to an offensive player or head-butter!

I am sure that what you say is exactly what I told around. I mean you could here his name every minute of the game.he was always there for his mates during al the games and never did an error. If he didnt get the Golden ball for me he got two but they cant be seen since I just imagine them :) joking he deserved it but as usual things dont appear so fair as they should be

I think your on crack, and need to be btchslapped..I'm sending Zid to beat you up.
Your a disgrace to Zid, don't even bother calling yourself a fan of his.
After the tremendous career he's had, knowing that he's retiring, knowing how inspiring he got that french team, after they almost got eliminated for playing like crap..he got them to the cup, with his experience, inspiration, and leadership, if you were his fan, you would know this. But instead you sit here and say he doesnt deserve it..who the hell are you, to critize his career acomplisments, do you work for FiFA? have you ever even played futbol..wati no..you call it soccer, that's right.
Just because Zid got himself kick out of the game, for a questionable decision, does not mean his life accomplishment should be overlooked over one moment. Had to be an italian supporter to come up with this.

without Zidane France would have not been in the World Cup in the first place, and Spain would have destroyed them
