when i look under event viewer there are a lot of entries that say "cdrom has a bad block'

Try cleaning the lens. Canned air works good. The product really does exist.

Lens is not able to read the CD!!! just clean the lens!!!!
if the the problem still continues change ur CDROM!!! buy new ONE!!!

your cdrom is on its last legs
buy a new one. but first try lens cleaners
if the problem coninues, you might be having a scratch on the lens.
but a Lite-On DVD burner. its the best and cheapest burners you can get!

You can try cleaning, however its best if you look into purchasing a new one.

Your CD ROM's Lens is not working. Please clean it. or go for new lens
