I think the majority of women would choose a medium sized penis rather than a particularly long or short one. This would range between 5-8 inches in length. The truth is that very few women orgasm through penetration so a penis, sorry to tell you, is not always necessary to sexual satisfaction. But having one never hurt. A penis that is too small obviously offers very little sensation (good or bad), but one that is over-large can sometimes be painful or uncomfortable, leaving women with a stretchy or even torn feeling afterwards.
Just look at the difference between mens' and womens' models for dildos or sex toys. Men make these huge dildos that are over a foot long and 5 inches wide, and that rotate round and round in circles while vibrating and singing "Mary Had a Little Lamb." This isn't want makes [most] women get off. Women, on the other hand, design toys that are small and vibrate softly (because some women are sensitive), usually in the shape of a bullet or a bar of soap. Reason? The clitoris is arguably the most stimulating part of a woman's anatomy. Thus, a woman can climax without a penis at all...just a very talented finger.

This isn't an answer but It's very interesting that the size range given by answerers in this category has a much lower average than the answers given by women to similar questions in singles and dating.
Perhaps it says something about the obsessions or the realism of women you read the two categories...
The median length is apparently 5.5-6 inches, but I really can't comment on what is 'ideal' for a woman. As other answerers have pointed out it really does depend on the woman, but I think it is generally true to say that above average is preferred by most (but not huge).

Time and time again I say...size does not matter. It's how you use what you have. A guy with a 5 incher could get me off if he knows how. A guy witha 12 incher would do nothing for me if he didn't work the goods. 6-8 inches being normal? Umm..no. Larger than average actually. Lucky you.

The function of the penis biologically is to transfer sperm to the cervix so it has to be the size of an ideal vagina.

How big for what purpose? For urinating, it doesn't much matter. For sexual intercourse, I don't think there's one ideal size. Different women like different kinds of penises. A number of women like very large. Many women like large but not too large. Not too many women like small ones.

6inches?as long its big enough to snug inside and short enough to avoid scratching the female's pubic bone
