LoL, about the only place you can get good bbq is in the south now-a-days. I have also been all around the entire US and the place I go for the best is :
Memphis use to have the best bbq in my opinion. Pig-n-Whistle was excellent, but I haven't been there in over 6 years now :( Corky's in Memphis use to also be good...but somewhere along the lines they started making dry bbq the norm....which was not common when I was living there (went to dine there bout a year ago). BBQ should be made from a pig and should be made "wet" . Dry bbq made from different animals such as the cow, is absolutely wrong. People in the north for some reason think dry bbq (not) made from pork is the right way to go, but they couldn't be farther from the truth. Although Corky's in Memphis does offer "wet" ribs and "wet" pork bbq, they still consider dry the norm...again...which is weird because they didn't use to be. If you ever get a chance, try Corky's and Pig-n-Whistle around the Memphis/Germantown shelby county area. I believe Corky's will even ship their bbq to you so if you are lazy, you don't have to drive all the way up there. You can basically take a line and draw it at the top of TN and look to the states at the south for the best bbq, I wouldn't start heading toward florida though...but you get the idea. The southwest area of TN is fairly good in my standards, but if they don't offer "wet" bbq, I don't bother. Don't judge a place by its looks till you've tried their food is what I alway say. Good luck and good eats hopefully.

Well, the largest BBQ contest in the U.S is in Kansas City for the American Royal, but teams come from all over the country to compete.
I'll agree with others about Texas because I've had some good BBQ in Texas... good... NOT great. The best I can ever remember having was in Memphis, Nashville, Evergreen, Colorado; Rock Island, Illinois; St. Roberts, Missouri; Springfield, Missouri; and several places in Louisiana.
Let's face it... Barbecue just doesn't taste right unless it's prepared by a heavy set Black cook called "Big Daddy"... (NOT a raciest remark... it's just TRUE).

Definitely Texas! I am from Ohio and I make sure and get BBQ every time I go to Texas. I especially like the way Texans cook brisket. There isn't many people in Ohio who even know what to do with brisket!
I would say Kansas City area is second.

North Carolina has the best pork barbecue, Texas has the best beef barbecue. Why?Because many settlers of Texas were from places like Tennessee and Akansas which in turn had been settled as people moved west from N.C. Maybe when they got to Texas beef was more abundant so they set to making beef barbecue.
So remember, N.C. for pork, Texas for beef and don't get sidetracked by all the yankee "experts" who will try to tell you about eastern and western N.C. barbecue. Non southerners should be forcibly bussed to N.C. and Texas also so they can understand that there is more to Barbecue than cooking something on an outdoor grill!

I am from Oregon but we get a lot of transplants here bringing their regional BBQ. All of them have their own unique qualities to their style. There is the Memphis style, the KC style, the "Southern Style" (generic for anything from the South to us Oregonians). and then Texan. The differences are vast, smokey, sweet, smokey-sweet, and then of course all of the different smoked woods... All this being said they all have something good about their BB-Q's, but if I was to have to pick one type of 'Que to eat for the rest of my life.....I would want to get messy in Texas...every Texan 'Que I've had so far has just the right amount of Smokey-Sweet-Woody-Meat Flavor that you can ask for..I'm not just brown-nosing ya 'cause you're a Lone Starer but the proof is in the poodin or sauce as it might be...You want some good BBQ Oysters though and you have to try some of ours up here in the Beaver State.....ooh yeah... Thanks for the thought provoking question....

Memphis (if you like sweet barbecue) or Newnan, Georgia (if you like vinegary barbecue). I've been all over the south and those are by far the best. The particular name of the place in Newnan is "Sprayberry's Barbeque". As for Memphis, just pick one!

I would say Texas.
However, I'm FROM New England and well, we do lobster and clambakes and chowdah. The BBQ is okay, but not nearly as good as it is down south.
