He helped to raise her niece (she got custody when her sister passed) for the past 3 years. The little girl, now 5, thinks of him as her Uncle. He was, and still is, the only possitive influence in her life. The ex allows us visits with the girl. But the ex also uses these visits as an excuse to try to spend time with my fiance. He stayed in the relationship with her for the child's sake, and has told the ex that he fell out of love with her years ago. Every time the ex gets into a fight with her latest b/f , she tries to pour her heart out to my fiance about it. Then she yells at me for taking him away from her! My fiance has told her more than once that the only reason he will have any contact with her is to see the child. Then she tries to play the 'remember when we did this or that?' game; mostly fictisious memories of all their happy times together. She just doesn't get the fact that he is out of her personal life and is now my fiance. We have been together for 1 1/2 years.

If the child is 5 years old and he visits to see the child, be sure to accompany him on the visits so the ex will have physical evidence that he is with you. Ask your fiance to wean himself away from this relationship, as he is really, not responsible to provide for a child who is not his own. If he does not establish some harsh boundaries for the ex girlfriend, she will continue to use the child to make contacts with him. If he has lived away from this child almost 2 years, she is probably not expecting frequent visits from her "uncle". Unfortunately for the child, the problem is not yours anymore. So gradually put an end to that illusion of being relatives to this psycho and her niece. Children learn to deal with the truth better than with illusions and fairy tales.
