Go to www.fns.usda.gov/wic and click on topics A - Z and then click on breastfeeding. The WIC program provides vouchers for food to low income women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and to the young children. Women who breastfeed receive more vouchers and receive them for longer than the women who use formula so that is definitely an advantage.
There have been a lot of studies on breastfed infants and it has been found that breastfeeding increases intelligence in children. It is also good for a woman's figure since breastfeeding burns calories. Breastfeeding is also believed to lower a woman's chance of developing breast cancer.
Possible negatives: any medications a woman takes can pass into the breast milk. Children of women who smoke and breastfed tend to be underweight. Occasionally, a mother may have a nutritional problem and her milk may not contain enough nutrients. A woman can also develop mastitis which is a painful breast infection. It is embarrassing when your child is able to talk and begs for the breast and lifts up your shirt in public!

A good attention getter might be talking about the lawsuits brought on by mothers breastfeeding in public places--I'm sure you can find a lot of information if you search. It's a pretty hot topic right now.

You could ask pediatricians about the pros--they definitely encourage mothers to breastfeed.

you absolutely need to mention how formula is not as good for the babies as breastfeeding is...

I breastfeed for 11 months and weaning wasn't so difficult cos it was he decision to reject the breast at 11 months...

These are the facts: He is 23 months now and my son has only gotton sick with a cold once since birth.

No ear infections

FIGHTS GERMS

HE IS A SMART TODDLER

and the bond between him and I is AMAZING

Breastfeeding my son was so very gratifying to me. I see him growing up healthy and I am so proud of us.

good luck on the speech.. great topic... mentions Breastfeeding awareness day..

also make sure you say "BABIES SAY BREAST IS THE BEST FOR BABIES"

look into the history of breastfeeding ...... it's decline due to the women's lib movement... and how it was seen low class and thirdworldish by rich lazy women ... . keeping the formula companies in business ... thats a good opener

oh my goodness.... every immunity in an adult mother goes to a baby when breastfeeding. It's so natural EVERYthing a child needs depending on the adults diet is there. all vitamins, minerals and most important it strengthens their immune system.. breastfed children get sick less, aren't overweight from the extra junk they put in formula, and in my personal opinion are just beautiful.. if you have a child you can usually tell when one's been bottle fed or breast fed. i don't necessarily mean to be breastfed until they're 7. but the most important time is the first days after birth. it also for the mother helps contract the uterus and burns calories to get back into shape very quickly. there are NO disadvantages. except for the first week, it hurts, BUT after that, it's easy and painless. it's embarrassing in public, but i always pre-pumped and put into a bottle if we went out. it's a pain, but it's sooo worth it. if you go throught the initial pain of labor and child birth WHY not go all the way and do EVERy thing possible to help your child grow to the best and healthiest and fullest in your power. sorry. if that's too much. but i feel strongly about the subject. oh, it also saves money from buying formula and it's sanitary, no washing, disenfecting, sterilizing bottles, nipples. and so on. no getting up at 3, 5, 7 in the morning to make the bottle, heat it up and feed. just roll over and mom can sleep and baby can eat. very convenient. ok, that's it,.

breast feeding can help a child avoid getting alergies. there are so many things in breast milk that help keep babies healthy. breast milk changes, i think, at 2 monthes, 6 monthes, 1 year and even at 2 years so breast milk adjusts perfectly for your child at different stages. breast feeding helps mom lost weight quicker; when you are breast feeding it actually makes your uteris contract and shrink back down to size. it also lowers the chance of mom getting overian cancer. babies are never alergic to breast milk. there's less baggage to carry around when you are not at home. it's what god made boobs for! and, from experience, there's nothing like the closness and the bond you have when you are feeding your child.

i'd walk in wearing a nursing shall with a toddler doll less than the scarf and ask people in the experience that they can inform in case your nipple is uncovered or not. convey information of how many germs are on the known lavatory seat, ailments typically modern-day in bogs, information of how many germs are in the air of the lavatory... then open a tupperware of sandwiches and say "I made those in the faculty bathing room on the counter. Who needs one?" then ask why anybody ought to opt to feed their toddler in a bathroom.
