Very good question. You are right pixel is smallest part of the screen .
Hardware resolution of the monitor is the true monitor resolution.
If your monitor supports 1024 x 768. But in the OS software you have set screen resolution 800 x 600 then 800 x 600 is mapped to 1024 x 768. That means 2 or more pixels is mapped to one pixel is screen.
Hope this answer the question.

Hi,
PIXEL is part of the moniter resolutin not the moniter, but 800*600 is the resolution but not the size of the moniter, if the density of the pixel is more then the qulity of pic or what ever it displays is of more quality.

On a glass tube CRT, there are no physical pixels, so you can change it to anything (essentially).
On an LCD, there are physical pixels and there is a maximum size you can set it to, but anything smaller will be scaled up to fit the screen.

every pixel is the same size. if the monitor's native resolution is 800x600 there is no way for it to be "upgraded" to 1024x768

3. From the window which opens up select Settings.

i'm no longer an authority at this, so if i'm incorrect no favor to flame me, professionals, yet i imagine if this is the utmost option meaning your pictures card won't be able to cope with any larger, so that you ought to desire yet another pictures card
