They don't hide your personality, they hide your boobs and butts. Don't think that who you are is strictly reflected in what you wear.

Assuming you are talking about a religious private school...That's the whole point. Religion is all about conformity, and school uniforms are just another way for the religious zealots to supress any bit of individuality you have.
I've heard other theories that suggest that it puts all students on an even playing field. You are not judged by how much money you have or what brand of clothes you wear. I don't care what they say, a uniform is not going to prevent anyone from being teased, harassed or otherwise judged by thier peers.

School uniforms are wonderful, I wish they were in EVERY school. Say for instance, you had better clothes than someone, maybe they have holes. Well some people in the school will make fun of that person, making that person feel bad. Also, another top thing is so they dont have to make sure you are wearing something not allowed or does not go by the dresscode. Hope this helps.

1) Uniforms aim to keep people uniform--that is, on the same social plane. So there are no social hierarchies based solely on how someone looks.
2) To create a sense of unity and cohesion. I mean, imagine a military outfit with each person dressed in their street clothes, and tell me (a) how to distinguish them from everybody else and (b) if you get less of a sense of the identity of the military.
Uniforms do create a sense of school identity. They also can create a sense of pride and mutual respect. What if your doctor came in to examine you dressed in gangsta gear? Would you sort of immediately feel that sense of confidence and assurance that you get when you see him or her in a uniform? It is a consistency thing--people know what to expect, in a way, from people in uniforms.
3) To create an atmosphere of being focused on something other than socializing and looking unique. When things are focused on "who looks different" or "who looks better" or "who looks worse," the whole "purpose" becomes "what people look like" instead of "what people are there for."
4) Your personality really doesn't have much to do with your willingness and ability to learn. If anything, personalities can detract from such endeavors. You have plenty of other hours in the week to express your personality through clothing.
5) When people look more or less the same, they have to rely more on developing their CHARACTER, which is not the same thing as personality at all.

I used to teach English in Japan where ALL students wore uniforms. I think uniforms brought out their individuality in three distinct ways: hair, shoes, and bags. Because their dress was so alike, they went insane with the only parts of their outfits that they could, and as a result, their crazy hairstyles and unique shoes and bags stood out even more. It's funny how putting restrictions on creativity actually intensifies creativity.

I have gone to private schools my whole since kindergarten. I guess I'm used to uniforms and I have grown to like them. They make it much easier to get ready in the morning. Trust me, I spend plenty of money on nice clothes anyways but I would still prefer uniforms. I'm in highschool now and I love being myself and looking good but I don't even mind them.
Taking kids out of uniforms when they've been in them for so long really is a distraction. I notice on days when we have free dress days, we pay more attention on our outfits than in class.

I can see it both ways really but think of some of the benefits. It would actually be nice not to have to worry about what to wear in the morning, not having the "dress to impress" mentality where poor kids feel bad at school, saving money, etc. Just add some cool accessories (don't know how strict they are about this), have fun with hair and makeup and enjoy being a kid.

If the clothes you wear are what makes your personality, then you have a very shallow mind. Personality is who you are, the way you act, it is not the clothes you wear. School uniforms help to keep the students minds on their job (school) and not on what little Suzi or Johnny are wearing today.

i don't see anything wrong with them. i've been wearing them since i was 4 and i'm 18 and still do. its so that ppl wont make fun of others that don't have fancy new stuff and cool clothes to wear all the time. everyone is seen as equal when u wear a uniform. u don't have to care about anyone judging you and i don't think it stifles ur personality. ur still able to express urself, ur just not allowed to come to school dressing like a ho.

They ensure 'uniformity'. Help to make the students feel equal in the school. Otherwise, students tend to compare their clothes and thus their social and financial backgrounds. Also, uniforms ensure that there is a level of 'decency' maintianed in the school.
