YES, it is. The way they work is by testing your hormone levels. They test for a specific hormone. Since all women are diffrent, there is a chance that your hormone levels aren't strong yet. I have actually heard of it taking upto 2 months in some women before the pregnancy homrmones where strong enough to get a positive on an at-home test. You should go see a dr though, because if you aren't pg, there are other reasons for being late on your period, and the reason needs to be found.

False negatives are usually correct. Most home pregnancy tests are fairly accurate. Have you been stressing about being pregnant? Stress can cause your period to be late, as can dietary changes, travelling, etc. And most of the signs of pregnancy don't show up for quite a while.

yes you can have a false negative. You may not be very late yet, and you don't have a lot of the pregnancy hormone built up yet. but the tests are very good now. Just wait another week or so and see what it says. In the meantime, obviously, no drinking or smoking.

A really good friend of mine , who has three children BTW, never showed on a test until she was around 7-8 weeks pregnant. Some women just don't produce enough hormone at first for the test to show.
