I saw on Oprah that you should hook your bra on the loosest clasp. The others are to allow for tightening as the bra stretches out as it gets older

The clasp position has nothing to do with it. I was always told when you get a new bra to wear it on the last clasp, so when the bra gets older and starts getting tighter from washing it then you can go to the middle clasp and it will still fit fine.

cliffy's answer is the right one.
the bra should fit perfectly on the loosest setting. after wear and washing over and over, the other clasps are there to be tightened because as all other clothes do, your bra will stretch out.

I was wondering that too. I have always been a 34, but it is getting tight and i was wondering what the 36 is measured from.

Well, the right fit should be the middle one...so that when you feel tighter or lossen in the future, you can go inward and outwards.
If your right fit is on the last one...if it turned out to be too tight, you can't adjust anymore....likewise via visa
