I'm sure it is, but want to know what other people think because I often hear black people use the term all the time, and it seems to have become more of an amiable reference than it once was.
Perhaps it's okay if used in a friendly way like "Hey N, waz up?"

ignorance really ISN'T bliss. the n word is deragatory and racist no matter who is using it. and no there really isn't a friendly way of using that word. the word represent everything negative associated with black people and if i could choose one word to be abolished out of any language that would be the one, because everytime it's used it tears down anything good. does that answer your question?

And that, i imagine, is the can of worms that BB has spread out. Black human beings were 'reclaiming' the interest for years, yet by rap song and action pictures that is re-getting into the regular public information, and being picked up by employing a white era who do no longer remember why it became so taboo contained in the first position. So, is a word in ordinary words racist in a particular context, and who's to make the judgement? might want to channel 4 ban all rap songs, video clips and action pictures that use the interest? Spokespeople for the television company so a procedures have suggested that that is a racist word, complete give up!

The word ni**er used as a noun is derived form ***** a late 16 Th century Spain meaning black. This term is now considered taboo by the masses. To understand why some use this word one must understand why people use profanity and other vulgar terms. Most people who use language of that nature do not know of any better words to use.

Ignorance is bliss

Its still racist dependent upon the user. Among black people they use it in a familial way. It will never be "ok" for a white person to say it. Even if you don't know what it means and totally don't mean anything by it.

Southern whites may call each other "cracker" but let me as a Black man call a southern man a"cracker" and the weight of my body suspended from a noose on a tree will"crack" the branch!
To be on the safe side I give each person respect. My friends can say things to me that would be inappropriate for someone else to say.(And the 'n'word is not one of those things!)

I think if you're anything other than black, it's best to just avoid it altogether. The only time it's really hard is when you're signing lyrics to current music. At that point, I just give up. If blacks are going to embrace it and make it their own and change its meaning (which I think is great), then it has to be OK for everyone eventually.

Personally, I still consider it extremely racist and horribly rude.

It's not a "try it and see" situation. Not for me, anyway. If I ever *were* to use it, I would have to be 100% sure that my friend was 100% okay with me doing so. It's just not something to joke about.

... When something could be so offensive, why risk it?

In our area there is alot of black ppl and they are nice ppl so please dont take that wrong im not at all predjuice . But it seems as if black ppl only like other black ppl calling them the N word , they kinda know its not meant bad but if someone white called them that i would not blame them if they slapped the crap out of them , I know I personally wouldnt want black ppl referring to me as Honky. So my answer to your question is yes i think it is being rasist and dont think ppl should say the N word it is just pure out disrespectful of ppl.

Bill Cosby is the owner of BET television network.
Recently he spoke out to his culture "Stop using the word 'n' it is an insult to ourselves"
And it is!
Other cultures don't walk around saying 'hey china men, hey whitey, hey Indian, etc'

Beside in the dictionary the 'n' word mean ignorance - not Culture!
