The gun is actually more painful and less controlled. I speak from experience. Basically it's like a blunt force trauma to your skin. The sharp point it trying to force its way though and there's all the friction from the skin. It literally tears through your skin. In my experience, things pierced like this are more painful, are sore longer, take longer to heal and are an unpleasant experience. Plus, with the gun, the piercer feels nothing.
With a regular piercer with a hollow needle, it is so much better Because the needle is sharp and hollow, it cuts the skin efficiently. The cut skin can go in the hollow part so there is a much cleaner cut and less friction to tear the skin. It will be less painful and heal much quicker. There is also a lot less redness.
The biggest difference is when the jewelery goes in. With the gun, it is usually forced in. But it's so tight that you have to turn the jewelery to keep it from getting locked in there as the skin tries to heal This hurts so bad! With the hollow needle, the jewelery is threaded through the needle so there is plenty of room for the wound to heal without tring to heal to the jewelery. Also, the piercer can feel what they are piercing an place it just right. It's a lot more controlled. That and piercers use single-use equipment so it's more sterile. Guns can be used over and over again so you're increasing your risk for infection.

I have had mine done and it was done with a needle. Also they told me not to take out the ring for a while and I did. I wanted a small stud so when I got home I changed it. It did fine. I no longer have it anymore and you can't tell that I ever had one. And just to let you know I did receive lots of compliments on it while I had it. Just make sure that you clean it well at least 2-3 times a day and put antibiotic medicine on it when you first get it. It helps alot.

I've never heard of using the gun on the nose... ear lobes, yes, and ear cartilage, but not on the nose. When I had my nose pierced last summer, the guy who did it used a needle, by hand, and everything turned out fine. I would stay away from the gun, it's less controlled. Good luck! Hope you like your piercing, I love mine!

No piercing EVER should be done with a gun. They are unsanitary and can cause problems with healing. And to Mad4MAC....it's a piercing you douche. If she doesn't want it in a few years, she can take it out. And bulls have septum rings, not nose rings. Get your anatomy right before you try to sound smart.

well, i got my nose pierced with a needle, and it hurt like hell.....granted, i was ten at the time, and i was more sensitive to pain then. i think u should use a gun, only because it's quicker....although i hate the earring they always use in the gun, it's so big and will look dumb in your nose for a couple of weeks.

Someone please tell Mad4Mac to mind his own frigging business about tattoos and piercings. If he doesn't want one then he doesn't have to have one. What a prig!!!
As for needles vs guns: I have had ears and nipples pierced and had a gun for the ears and needle for the nipples. Both worked and I am happy with all my piercings. I suggest a qualified professional for your piercings. Have fun.

Do yourself a big favor and rethink this nose piercing. Are you a bull, no. In a few years you will regret doing it. Just like people who get tatoos.

i'd flow with a stud in my opinion. My ring were given stuck on my outfits and when I went to take it out I had to apply pliers to get it out :/ no longer relaxing. It ripped although 1/2 of my nostril. yet that is in simple terms my own experience. solid success!
