I know this is a dumb question, but my friend asked, who invented the hitch-hiker thumb jester?

I'm really not too sure, but I just wanted to let you know you spelled a word incorrectly. It should be gesture. Good luck finding your answer!

Who will ever know the first person to hitch a ride but I think it may have been just the natural gesture to use to show someone you're going "thatta way" by jerking your thumb in that direction...looks cooler than pointing with your index finger I guess, ;)
