I definitely think honesty is the rarest human quality.

Individual people are lying all the time to themselves and others, also nations are doing the same thing.

Here is an excellent summary from Billy Joel's song "Honesty"

If you search for tenderness
It isn't hard to find
You can have the love you need to live
But if you look for truthfulness
You might just as well be blind
It always seems to be so hard to give

Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you

I can always find someone
To say they sympathize
If I wear my heart out on my sleeve
But I don't want some pretty face
To tell me pretty lies
All I want is someone to believe

Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you

I can find a lover
I can find a friend
I can have security
Until the bitter end
Anyone can comfort me
With promises again
I know, I know

When I'm deep inside of me
Don't be too concerned
I won't ask for nothin' while I'm gone
But when I want sincerity
Tell me where else can I turn
Because you're the only one that I depend on

Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you

I think tolerance is the least common. It's hard to truly accept everyone as they are, flaws and prejudice aside. Like the other answers, I think it's especially important today due to the racism and prejudiced conflicts. Discrimination is common these days so tolerance would be the least common.

An interesting thought. I believe it would have to be "Tolerance"
Because with tolerance you have patience and with patience you have certainty. It can also be a means to be generous. Until we continue to find the slightest specks of honesty we will continue having justice. Yet the state of the world that we currently live in reflects alot of intolerance.

I would have to say honesty, but it's funny because I don't think that you could be tolerant nor generous if you were not honest first, otherwise the would be some ulterior motive involved and that is not being generous nor tolerant.

Because of the hate crimes that you see everyday in the news, I'm going to say tolerance is the rarest.

Tolerance. It doesn't take much to give spare change to a homeless person, or clothes to the Goodwill, or to give someone a ride home. It's easy to tell someone the truth and sometimes it can happen accidentally. But tolerance means not hating someone because of the color of their skin, or helping that homeless person even though they are dirty.

I would say tolerance. I don't see tolerance in our government, religions, and especially on yahoo answers. I also agree that the hate crimes that are running rampant today point to a definite lack of tolerance.

Honesty. People are fearful about their abilities and fearful of punishment so they tend to lie. Also, people are unwilling to be honest with themselves about who they are and what their circumstances are.

Look at recent scandals with plagiarism, fictional memoirs, and how commonly the truth is obscured by politicians in order to promote their ends. Honesty is under constant siege and people are pretty lax about it.

Intolerance is just a form of hatred... I think we think it's common because its effects are so appalling. Honesty is much rarer.
