It's impossible to "turn gay." Typically, one starts to realize their sexuality at around puberty; before that time there is no need for the orientation to surface since the body's not ready for sex. It would be accurate to say that orientation is "dormant" until puberty.

The biological purpose of puberty is for the body to get ready for sex. Part of the biological changes include mental development, such as attraction: first crush and all that. That first crush is the first development of sexual orientation--in gay people it just happens to be the same sex instead of the opposite sex.

It's a completely natural, biological process that is beyond the individual's control. If people could "turn gay" or "turn hetero," then homosexuality wouldn't exist in just about every animal species studied.
