I do not have a pond myself, but I work at a pet store with a fairly large pond section, and here is what I would suggest:
Introduce/Add lots of pond plants or flowers, such lilies, which have pads and take up a large surface area. This provides shade (which is also good for fish) and therefor reduces algae.
There's also types of hay and barley products such as mats and pellets which are supposed to reduce algae growth, as well as chemicals you can buy.
Pond plants, in my opinion, are the best way to go, as they are much more natural but also look nice. Also remember that, although it might not always look appealing, algae isn't usually bad for your pond. It is simply another plant form, people have just decided that they don't like it. Because of this, I wouldn't worry about getting rid of it completely.

to stop algae growth, you have to stop feeding the algae
first make sure that you don't have too many fish
second, cut off you light source,,,, cover you pond with
plants or shade trees, etc
Good Luck

Put in a bale or, it your pond is too small, part of a bale of barley straw. You should be able to get one from a local dairy farm.
